Can I just say this? (And it's about Revolutionary America, so if you don't like history, feel free to skip.)
America sometimes lets me down. I think in crucial moments we can make the wrong decisions. We like to stay neutral when it's benefical to us, but we also like to be active in issues if it's to our benefit as well.
What makes me proud to be an American is not necessarily the America we have today but rather the way we became America. The founding fathers. The Revolutionary War. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. I love that period of time, when the colonies rose up and became something the world had never seen and has never seen since.
Really, if you think about it, it was just the right people at the right time in the right place. Everything was there to make the revolution happen. To me, that's unbelievable. So many amazing men just happen to come together and happen to make a united country out of thirteen independent colonies. Sometimes America can embarrass me greatly, but when I am reminded of what happened two centuries ago, reminded of what this country was founded on...that, my friends, is what makes me proud to be an American. That these small colonies founded on the coast could rise above all odds to make something incredible; that men we call 'fathers' raised this country despite the doubt and criticism. That we are still here today, so much larger and only 200 some-odd-years old.
In watching the John Adams miniseries, I am truly astounded when I get to watch the recreation of what happened what was actually not so very long ago, as far as histories of countries go. Watching the Declaration of Independence being read to a crowd that had never heard it before, watching as those words were read for the first time to help inspire a people who were so scared, so frightened because they were doing something completely new and foreign to them--rebelling against the King and trying to break away from the monarchy...watching history unfold, it bought tears to my eyes. For real. I have never been so proud of my heritage as an American as I did watching that scene.
Then again, Revolutionary America is one of my favorite subjects, soooooooooo it's no wonder I'd be all, "OHMYGOD THIS IS SRSLY AWESUM GUIZ".
And...okay, I think I'm done. Yup, I'm good. Sorry, just had to get that out there.
what the fuck is this?,
revolutionary america is fucking badass,
