In order to keep with the trend of this week - today was another wonderful day! It started out with work as usual. That alarm going off bright and early at 7:30! I had a lot to do and my boss loves me and wants to take me to lunch for doing such a wonderful job. And she told me that I need to start coming to the meetings and meeting the producers etc. So that's exciting seeing as how that was where I learned the most back in the city. The atmosphere here and theatre industry is so different here in London than in NY. I like it a lot better. Theatre is so much more appreciated and the audience is always so diverse here - as opposed to the 55 year old jewish woman you have to play to in NY. I had a wonderful conversation about Japanese theatre and playwrights and Commedia Del Arte with a guy at work. It was amazing. And side note - last night I saw Pericles by Shakespeare at the Globe. I was a groundling! (which for you non theatre folk means I stood in the yard against the stage the whole show - just like in Shakespeare's day) The show was amazing. they had an international cast from all over the world and all different accents. The actors were not very technical, but that was half the beauty of it. You could just see a group of people comming together with a common bond to put on an amazing show. Gardo (one of the characters) said "if you want to see art, go to a museum, here at the globe we don't do 'art'... we do LIFE!. It was great. Anyways, what really made it amazing was that half of the cast were acrobats and gymnists. They had all these ropes suspended from the ceiling and in the galleries and they because the elements of the waves and wind during the storm and olympic athletes. My jaw was dropped the entire time with a smile beaming on my face. It was physical theatre, which I haven't seen a lot of so that was so interesting. It was truly a wonderful experience.
Anyways... back to today. After work i ran to Pret and grabbed a sandwhich and fruit and splurged and got a fruit and oat bar. (Thanks mom and dad) and ran to the tube to get to class. Since it's Wednesday that means I have a 3 hour walking tour while my professor lectures. We went to the tower of London today. It was great... especially because it is where Richard III is set and even more so because Tim Kidd kept getting interrupted and overpowered. First by the British army and their rehearsal for a big army event (complete with drills, guns, and the army band), then by a guard of the fortress who was also acting as a tour guide. Poor TK. We also went to see the crown jewels. Damn (sorry mom) I have never seen so many diamonds and jewels and gold in my life! On the queen's scepter there is the biggest diamond in the world. It is 530 carrats!!! The crowns are just encrusted with diamonds, most as large as a common person's engagement ring. It was crazy. They had a punch bowl made of pure gold with golden sculptures on it that was as big as me. i could fit in this punch bowl. So much wealth. So I believe the new goal of the trip will be for me to figure out a way to become royalty. I think that's a worthy goal don't you?
After the tour and hanging around the tower some more, we began our hike along the Thames river to the National Theatre. We saw Theatre of Blood there, which although wasn't very good, it did have Zeidler from Moulin Rouge as it's leading man. So that was fun. The second act also improved tremendously because of the glass of sherry I had at the itnerval. The show did have a great message at the end though. But I won't go into it because it's a theatre thing and it would probably bore the rest of you.
Well it is almost 1:30 am and once again I need to work tomorrow and then jet on over to class. I also have my first meeting in the West End theatre scene! Yay The Woman in White by Andrew lloyd webber. Goodnight!
