I am currently plowing through
Craft, Inc., which is basically a (really pretty) guide to starting your cottage-industry art business. I'm learning so much about starting and truly launching a business venture from it. A lot of it is stuff I already knew -- how to register your business and such -- but it's still incredibly helpful to see it all laid out in front of you. In fact, I wrote my first business plan on Monday! It's mostly a sketch of what I plan to do for my jewelry business until the end of the year. Right now, I'm laying the groundwork. The focus is on branding, organizing, and promoting. In 2010, I intend to start getting my stuff into stores, making my web site look more professional, and figuring out exactly where I'm going with the whole shebang.
My current goals are adding new items to my store three times a week, analyzing my shop traffic patterns, designing a logo, and a bunch of other stuff that likely doesn't interest most of you. I added new items today and yesterday, and 10 minutes after today's listing, I made a sale. Woo hoo! I know this won't happen every time, but it's a start.
