Holiday Highlight Reel

New Year, new post! I guess this is technically my second post of the year, but whatever. The first one didn't really count.

So! Time for a Highlight Reel of the last few weeks because lots of stuff has happened but I have not journaled about it. That does seem to be the trend of late, I'm afraid. I read my flist every day, but postings are becoming a rarity indeed.

Christmas With Shaun - Kind of a long weekend, but very nice. We went to the holiday party of one of his friends in De Kalb, which was okay, but kind of awkward since I didn't really know anyone there and I was majorly allergic to their cat. We drove to De Kalb and back that day, which definitely made for a long day. But the next day we just spent lazing around at Shaun's apartment, eating cinnamon rolls and watching old favorite Christmas specials. Shaun picked The Year Without A Santa Claus and I picked The Care Bears Nutcracker. As for gifts, Shaun gave me a really nice digital camera and I made him a d20 shaped dice bag and put a pound of assorted dice in it. The bag was actually pretty hard to sew together, and to be honest, mine is a little lumpy and not nearly as nicely shaped as the one in the picture (the zipper's not sewn in so narrowly so it makes the zipper end lopsided and a lot of my corner intersections were not very good), but Shaun liked it anyway. And since one of his life goals is to have enough dice to fill a fish tank, the pound is a good help.

Christmas With Family - Fun, but different, mainly due to Jack's absence (he spent the holidays with his girlfriend's family this year). We all missed having him with us so I think next year when he's back will be that much better. My favorite part of this year's trip was definitely the family henna party. My Aunt has been wanting henna since before last Christmas but it didn't happen last year for various reasons. So this year I made absolutely sure she got her henna, and henna'ed everyone else in the family too! Even my Uncle, who was very skeptical at first, decided it was kind of cool and got a yin-yang on his forearm. And my 80+ year old Great Aunt got a dragon on her wrist. :)

New Year/Anniversary - Lovely. After so many busy weekends full of holiday celebrating, it was really nice to spend a long quiet weekend with just Shaun, doing our own thing. We went out to a very nice dinner on Thursday and then stayed in and Shaun cooked a wonderful dinner for me on New Years Eve. Sauteed veggies and penne pasta in a white wine sauce, followed up with super amazing chocolate wine cake. We followed that with board games and a re-watching of Fanboys, one of the two movies we watched on our first date (yes, we watched two movies). As an anniversary gift, Shaun gave me this locket which I really love and I think is even prettier in person than in the picture.

Yesterday - My first time at the Roller Derby! I saw an ad in the local community event circular and decided it looked pretty awesome. Shaun agreed to go and we got a few friends to go with us. It was fun! I sort of looked up the rules ahead of time so I'd sort of know what was going on, but we ended up using Shaun's phone Internet to look up things during the match anyway. It was kind of an odd match though, because they took several local teams and mixed them all up into new teams for this one only. So they weren't with their usual teammates running their usual plays (or whatever you call them in derby). And all the talent totally ended up stacked onto a couple of teams so we had to watch this one team get totally creamed twice, which was not nearly as exciting to watch as the closer matches. But it was fun and Shaun and I agreed that we'd definitely like to go again sometime, and maybe see if there's a league in the Bloomington area and check that out too.
