In many ways, my mom and I are similar...we are both extroverts, love helping others, and are workaholics. We both have a built in compass in our heads, where we can remember directions, or where places are located even if we visited it once years before. Volunteers are constantly surprised that I seem to know how to get around, sometimes better than the people living there, throughout Peru, when I only spent a few hours or couple days in that city.
Well, there was another thing that I inherited from her, a sudden lapse in judgement, where car keys, important documents, cell phones get misplaced. Multiple times a day I help my mother retrace her steps to find a key that is actually in her purse, or a cell phone that is burried under a pile of papers...and I find myself doing the same thing too. Yesterday I could not find my keys....until I dumped my purse out (5 minutes later), and it came out, I swear, I had the key in my hand right before that. Today I was talking to my friend on the phone, and was going to head out the door so I told her I would call her back. I could not find the phone anywhere...until later in the night when my mother opened the FRIDGE and there was a blinking phone next to the milk.
If I'm doing these things now at 26 years of age....what will it be like when I'm 55....eeekkk
