Character
Name: Apple Bloom
Series: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic
Timeline: After the events in episode 6 of season 2, "The Cutie Pox"
Canon Resource Links: Apple Bloom's page on the MLP:FiM wiki

Personality: Apple Bloom may be the youngest of the Apple clan, but she's hardly a baby... according to her, at least. Very independant (and a little scrappy, to boot), Apple Bloom is more than willing to prove to everypony that she is one of the adults, gosh darn it! She hates being babied, and will go out of her way to prove that she can take care of herself.

As one might guess, Apple Bloom is a little headstrong and prideful. While not exactly arrogant, Apple Bloom craves the respect of those around her, and will react negatively when she feels she's not getting the treatment she deserves. She'll do whatever it takes to earn that respect -- be it venturing into a dangerous, rarely-traveled forest, or performing dozens of dangerous activities to earn her Cutie Mark after being teased by her classmates.

In addition, Apple Bloom is impatient and extremely energetic. When she wants something, she wants it that very second! When combined with the impatience and energy of her two friends and fellow Cutie Mark Crusaders, Scootaloo and Sweetie Belle, the group tends to become something of an annoyance to the citizens of Ponyville.

Despite all that, though, Apple Bloom is generally a good kid. As evidenced by the previously mentioned forest-venturing and dangerous activity-doing, she's quite brave for someone so young. She's also got a lot of drive -- when she sets her mind to something, she will do her very hardest to get it done, rain or shine! Leaving a job half-finished is just not the Apple Family way, after all.

She's also quite honest. Like her sister, lying isn't really something that comes easily to Apple Bloom. In most cases, she'll try to give it to you straight... and even those times when it's tempting to lie, she'll still end up spilling the beans eventually. Dishonesty and cheating won't get anypony anywhere, after all!

In addition to all this, she's also pretty creative and quick thinking. While she's not the official leader of the CMC -- nopony is -- she's often the one who plans out their activities, or coming up with new schemes to help them discovertheir Cutie Marks.

In the end, Apple Bloom is just an honest, energetic kid who wants to become an adult as soon as possible.

Strengths/Weaknesses:
( + ) Pretty brave for such a little filly. She's the first pony in all of Ponyville to try and confront the mysterious Zecora, even venturing into the feared Everfree Forest to do so.
( + ) Determined and hard-working. Once Apple Bloom has a goal, she works for it... though this is usually only applied to obtaining her Cutie Mark.
( + ) Athletic. Though she can hardly be compared to her brother and sister just yet, she's seen helping out on the farm on occasion, herding sheep, making grape juice, and collecting fallen apples with Applejack.
( + ) The episode "The Show Stoppers" seems to imply that she has a talent with design, construction and architecture. Whether this turns out to be her "unique talent" or not, she does at least have some skill in that area!
( + ) Honest. Though she did have a little trouble with this during that stint with the Heart's Desire, Apple Bloom is generally a frank and sincere pony... and she did eventually come clean in the end of that aforementioned fiasco, anyway!

( - ) Stubborn as all get-out. No matter what anypony tells her, once she's got an idea in that head of hers, there's no stopping her. (Much like her sister, Applejack. It must be an inherited trait...)
( - ) Young and inexperienced. She's not as grown-up as she likes to think she is, and this sometimes causes her to walk into situations she really shouldn't (like, for example, deciding for herself that a cockatrice sounds silly, and that she'd laugh right at it's face if given the chance).
( - ) Maybe a little too energetic... she tends to wear out almost anypony who isn't a fellow Cutie Mark Crusader, and still wind up with plenty of energy to spare. Kids these days, huh?
( - ) Impatient. When she wants something, she wants it now. Waiting for something big and important is never an option! In her own words, "I'm just to impatient to be patient!"
( - ) Sensitive and emotional. She's tends to take things personally, and works herself into a tizzy over things that most folks don't seem to pay much mind to. (The thing that started her obsession with obtaining a Cutie Mark, after all, was the relentless teasing from a pair of classmates.)

Samples
First Person Sample:
[Good evening, Johto! Today you'll be greeted with the face of one of your resident pony-turned-humans. She looks a little nonplussed about something.]

Hey! I gotta question for y'all who've been here in Johto for a while.

[in the background, one may notice a small pile of Oran Berries on the ground, and a rather pleased Machop sneaking some away.]

Now, I know that this ain't Equestria or anythin', but I keep findin' all these weird... things! [Apple Bloom gestures toward the berry pile - shooing Goldie the Machop away irritably when she notices her - and continues] They look like fruits or somethin, but...

[she makes a noise that sounds something like “bleeh!” and a disgusted face. Looks like she's found out for herself that Oran Berries aren't for human consumption... or even pony-turned-human consumption, for that matter.

After a moment she remembers that, yeah, she was recording something, and straightens up again.]

… But anyhow... I was thinkin', since this is a completely different world from the one I come from, an' since y'all got all these weird fruits 'n stuff that I ain't never seen before... [A serious look.] Does this place even have apples?? 'Cuz I don't think I've seen ANY apple trees since I got started on this here pokey-man journey!

[not that... she's really been paying that much attention to the fruit trees since she got here. There's been some other, more important things to focus on.

She grabs something from off-screen, and displays it for the Poke-gear to see. It's a picture of an apple, hand-drawn by Apple Bloom herself!

… It's not van Gogh or anything, but one can easily recognize it as an apple, at least.]

This is what one looks like, in case it goes by some other name 'round these parts or somethin'!

Third Person Sample: This was not looking good. Apple Bloom hated losing, but... she was starting to think that she may have to get used to the idea, if only this one time.

Her opponent had two Pokemon left of his five, and all Apple Bloom had was Hootenanny, her Hoothoot. All her other Pokemon were worn out, and couldn't fight anymore without getting more hurt than the young trainer would feel okay with.

And, while Hootenanny was doing okay, health-wise, Apple Bloom wasn't entirely sure that she was comfortable with the fact that she had only the rather... bird-brained owl to depend on.

... Well, that wasn't important. What was important was the fact that her opponent seemed to have a team made up entirely of bugs (if the title "Bug-Catcher" was any indication). And if Apple Bloom knew anything about the food chain, it was that bugs were a bird's favorite snack! So even if Hootenanny didn't seem to understand the seriousness of the situation, they should still be able to win without a problem!

"Come on, Nanny!" The Hoothoot lifted her head from the ground, where she had been picking for... worms, maybe? It was hard to tell. Regardless, the redhead pointed dramatically at the opponent's Weedle "Go an' chomp on that lil' worm!"

Hootenanny blinked her wide eyes for a moment -- once at her trainer, and once at the Weedle -- before nodding vigorously and fluttering into action, charging for the bug as fast as it's little wings could carry it.

The "lil' worm" in question took note of Hootenanny's charge, and remained still... until the moment before contact was made, where it ducked, causing the owl to ram headfirst into the tree behind it.

Both Apple Bloom and the Bug Catcher winced at the the hollow BONK, and Hootenanny stumbled backwards, flapping her wings to try and regain balance.

After a moment, she shook her head, and narrowed her eyes at the Weedle. She fluttered into the air once again (in a way that reminded Apple Bloom a little too much of Scootaloo), and tried to charge the bug yet again, flapping her wings a little faster this time around.

It was when the Weedle lowered it's head, exposing the rather large spike on top, that Apple Bloom realize that maybe this was a Bad Idea.

"W-wait a sec! Hold it, Nanny--!"

Too little, too late. Even if Hootenanny had been paying attention, she was already moving way too fast to stop herself before smacking right into the spike. Both her and the Weedle went flying, rolling across the grass a couple feet, before coming to a stop against yet another tree.

"You know," the other trainer began, a smirk breaking across his face, "Weedle are pretty poisonous! Maybe you should call your feather-brained owl back, before it's too late!"

Apple Bloom glared at the boy (who did he think he was?!), but seeing Hootenanny's sudden, uncharacteristic sluggishness, knew that he was probably right.

She called the bird back into her Pokeball, and frowned at it... more upset by the loss than irritated at the battered bird. "I thought owls were s'posed t' be smart..." she mumbled, and sighed.
