1. When she says something that bothers you be assertive;For example:
In-Law: "You really think you guys can make it on your own?"
You (in a calm non-offensive voice): What I'm gathering from your tone is that your don't feel as though your Son and I can succeed on our own. When you say things like that it really discourages me and hurts my feelings. I would really like your support as I'm sure Don would too, are you willing to give us your support?, because if not, I don't think Don and I will feel as comfortable being open with you about our future plans."
If she says yes, that she is willing to give her support, tell her thank you and it really means a lot to you. I she says no or has a sarcastic remark reply with, "From what you're saying I gather that you're not willing to give us your support?--break it down until you get a serious reply. I highlly dobht that she dosen't want to support you though.
