A new double drabble: A Good Appetite

Éowyn quit biting her lip and finally released a strangled chuckle. Her husband looked up from his plate, not long before piled up with pieces of roast duck and stewed vegetables.

“I always marvel at your hunger after returning from the White City, Faramir,” she answered his unspoken question, a teasing smile on her lips.

Faramir laughed.

“I will have you know, dear wife, that a healthy man needs more than a mere glass of water and a rusk after hours of riding. Were that not so, I would make a poor husband for a lady of Rohan,” he said, wiping his fingers on the napkin with deliberate slowness.

Rising, he crossed the chamber to where she was seated, and traced her cheekbone with a gentle caress. Éowyn leaned into it, then withdrew.

“Wait, the dessert is yet to come,” she said with a mischievous smile.

“I beg to differ,” Faramir said, pulling her to her feet and then scooping her up in his arms. “It already has.”

She wrapped her arms around his neck and whispered, just as their lips were about to meet, “You are right, my lord Steward… I do love a man with a good appetite.”

Author's Note: Written for a half-serious drabble challenge thought up by cressidarambles, as an attempt to show a Gondorian who can appreciate a good meal. As it turned out, they can appreciate other life pleasures just as well. :D
