Anybody see "Iron Jawed Angels"? Usually played on Lifetime, it features the story of Alice Paul, a famous women's suffragettes, and what she did to help get women the right to vote. It is an inspiring story that moves the soul of those who watch it.
Well, ever since the horrors of anti-choice have come to light through abortion laws taking away women's rights, I've felt the need to take action in my state. Especially when I looked at what stances my state holdes. As it reads off the NARAL: Pro-Choice America website,
Virginia

Odd. They never mentioned this in their platforms. They were too busy doing what politicians do, throw mud. So, because of this outrageous trend of banning abortion, I plan to make a stand. I will do the research, I will learn the methods needed to stand up and say, "I am a woman. I have a body. I want to have the right and responsibility over it. Give me liberty or give me death."
Women, though considered a minority, make up over 50% of the United States'population. And yet, as the majority, we are losing our rights to the minority sex. Irony is a funny thing, no? We women have a great power. We are able to unite together to pursue a common goal. It happened before, just looke up the history of Alice Paul, Mary Wollstonecraft, Emma Willard, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Sarah Moore Grimke, Angelina Emily Grimke, Lucretia Coffin Mott, Susan B. Anthony and so on. These women are proof that any person can do anything if they set their minds to it.
Though our battles today are not as great as they had been before, it is still a battle nonetheless. A battle for our rights over our own bodies. Our bodies. How sad of a time we live in if we have to fight our male, and some female, counterparts to control what is ours. It is a battle we MUST fight and we MUST win. For if we lose, it will only be the beginning of rights we will lose.
I encourage every man and woman to write to their congressmen and goveners and express their thoughts about abortion and other rights slowly being whittled away. Tell them to stand firm on what is best for AMERICANS and not what they believe is morally right. Because morals are subjective, and studies have shown that America is mostly pro-choice. And even if some are pro-life, they have admitted to being politically pro-choice. Because it is better to let other people have the right to act on their own free will than have no free will of our own.
