So all it takes for me to post is a great movie, who would have thought! ;) But we'll get to that later...
I don't get people, I just don't. When I get home from work, I take first the subway, and then a tram. This usually happens around 5:30 - 6:00 PM, so it's NOT like I'm the only person around, not by a long shot. But I am amongst the few listening to music. Cords coming out of my ears, kinda hard to miss. And YET, people come to me asking for directions! And this wasn't a one time thing either, it happened three times last week only! I wonder why this is happening, though. As I said, it's not like I'm the only one there and I'm not encouraging anybody by engaging eye contact. And I'm sure I don't have this trustworthy "I-know-where-I'm-going-just-ask-me!" look... People are odd. AND they never apologize for taking me away from my music. They're always polite, but they never apologize. Meh, I might be the crazy/harsh one.
Do you wanna listen to some great (new) music? Listen to The Fratellis and their debut album Costello Music. Great stuff! Or you could always listen to The Feeling. Love It When You Call and Rosé are totally addictive. And, of course, you shouldn't miss the newest Kaiser Chiefs song, Ruby. :)
Last week's Lost felt like Lost again for me, for the first time in a while. Fucking finally! It was a crazy Des episode, it had some Charlie too, I loved it. You know what else it had? Lowest ratings in the history of the show... :( And no, that can't happen. It'd be too obvious, and Lost is anything but. Or maybe they're trying a new approach? :p Nah, it's not happening.
Thanks to
injector being a totally great guy, I've been rewatching Firefly. Man, I love that show! And now I remember. I lied when I said Six was my first girl-crush ever. Inara was! OMFG, beautiful!! And Mal's constant snark and firm butt. And Jayne, ruttin' Jayne, how I love him. Wash and his witty comebacks, for liek, everything. Yeah, you get the idea. I love Firefly. :D
I decided to play catch up before the Oscars and watched three movies last night:
- The Pursuit of Happyness -
This movie will touch you and move you, and make you feel grateful for what you have. Will Smith is a great actor and the way he plays Chris' growing despair while still managing to be a good father it's amazing. I know this is based on a true story, but are we to believe that if we work hard enough and go through all hell, we will emerge victorious? Because... no, we don't. Sorry. Beautiful movie, great acting (OMG, Jaden rocks!), but the movie won't get the Oscars. Too much serious competition.
- Little Miss Sunshine -
A story about family, it will make you laugh and cry and it will show you, once again, that life is rarely what we hope for. It's a good movie, way better than I expected, and the characters are easy to like and enjoy. I wonder if Alan (Arkin) or Abigail (Breslin) will win an Oscar. My guess is not.
- Half Nelson -
This movie got to me big time... I found some reviews which express what I feel about this movie way better than I could. "Anyone who has experienced addiction in their lives, whether your own or someone close to you, will find this film cutting. It is not about the reasons leading to addiction or the recovery, rather it is about the experience of the addiction in its raw reality. Even if you have not experienced addiction in your life, the story is worthwhile and the photography stellar. Ryan Gosling is the perfect portrait of a good person who got lost. His portrayal of a crack head is almost too good. The dialog is not pretentious or assuming and not overused. The story unfolds itself in a very natural manner."
"If the strength of the medium of film is to relay meaning which cannot be expressed in words, then I don't think a review of this film on my part would be worth much. In the spirit of keeping things trite, let me just say I have seen quite a few films, quite a few classics, quite a few masterpieces, and frankly, none of them have moved me as much as this film did. How the BRILLIANT director/writers whom I'm sure we have not seen the last of, managed to weave together seamlessly political commentary, commentary on the nature of the modern family/relationships, existential struggles, racial tensions and ironies, and the very struggles with which we are born by simply being human, is beyond me. The end result was nothing short of a masterpiece. This movie will make you think, feel, and hope. Perfection projected."
Ryan deserves the Oscar for this one. He truly does.

Fuck, I almost forgot to be shallow! Ryan is so hot, OMFG!!! There, we're good now. :D Also? He really is. :p
I plan on also watching Babel, The Queen, Blood Diamond and The Last King of Scotland until Sunday. And then I'll tell you who deserves to win. :p
