Random Kindness That Has Touched My Life

Random (but purposeful) kindness always touches me. I read on a website that random acts of kindness don't usually envoke the response that the acter is looking for. Let's be honest, if someone just randomly came up and gave you a hug out of the goodness of their heart, for no reason, wouldnt you be creeped out? I probably wouldn't appreciate that as much as I appreciated these two gems from this weekend:

1.) 4th of July - I had to be at work at 6am, and it was brutal. I always seem to have a terrible time sleeping when I know I've got to be up early. I get so anxious about not being able to wake up, that my body then decides to practice waking up, at 15 minute intervals, all night long. So I gave up at 4:30 and just got up. Many of you know, I am not a pleasant person early in the morning. Well, I'm pleasant enough if you just don't talk to me; I won't actively seek negativity. Anyway. It's 2:30 in the afternoon, and I'm at the end of my 9 hour shift. I'm losing steam and I am making phone calls in the office. I go to walk out of the office, and I step on bubble wrap that has been in the doorway and chuckle. One of the stock room boys jumps out of his hiding spot and says, "DId you step on that?! I put it there to cheer you up!"

2.) 5th of July - Mrs. Neuman comes in (she's one of my favorite members), and she's always doing little creative things, always. So she is meeting all of her friends for gin rummy, and I help get her set up in the other room. She's made little goody bags for each of the ladies with a red white and blue theme, and since her daughter is a dermatologist, she has collected a ton of samples and put them in the bags along with bright blue pinwheels (because it's summer, obviously). The other staff leaves the room, and I continue talking with her. She asks me about Dave (she's met him, and is actively planning our wedding lol) and then says, "I wanted to wait until everyone else left the room, because I have something for you." And then she pulls out my very own goody bag with my name on it and a lot of little star stickers.

And it took me quite some time to write that, as I had a 40 minute long hiatus which was not pleasant at all. Which made it even more important that I finish writing it. Appreciate the little things, sometimes it's all you've got.

Emotional day.

"Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
