Dear Yuletide Writer

Dear Yuletide Writer,

Thank you so much for writing a story for me! I've tried to put various ideas in this letter, but if you'd rather go off on a different tangent, please feel free.

Things I enjoy: stories about female characters, plot, character interaction, gen fic or any of femslash/het/slash, exploring a canon world. I also like OCs as a way to expand the canon universe, so if that's a direction you want to go, that would be great too.

Things I don't enjoy: non-con or rape, non-canon character deaths (canon deaths are totally fine), adult/teen or adult/child sexual interaction, zombies, apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic fics.

Adaptation - Malinda Lo

I really enjoyed the conspiracy angles of the story, and the impact of that on ordinary lives. The ordinary life I'm most fascinated by - and the one we saw the least - is Amber's. I would love to see more of her - why did she go to school, what relationship does she have with her mother, how does she feel about her life and her "assignment"? If Amber's story doesn't catch your fancy, though, I'd love to see more of this world, whether it's the conspiracy to hide the crashed planes, the competition between Project Plato and Project Blue Box, the medicine and technologies that have developed and what this means for the world, why the Canadian and Mexican governments worked so closely with the US government, or even the decision to help Reese and David after the car crash. As is the case for Lo's other books, the focus on one character's story leaves huge space to be fleshed out. I found the adult characters fascinating too, as they tried to balance their work and their sanity with the big events going on - especially the scientists on the different projects - so feel free to use their more informed viewpoints if you prefer!

Baker Street (Comic)
This is one fandom where I desperately wish there was more: everything about the world is dropped in hints and background art, but the violent collision of Victorian mores (and not just the posh ones) and punk sensibility is gorgeously grim and intensely fascinating. Having open-minded, calm Susan in Watson's role as the narrator/diarist brings a lot of cohesion to the violent story and Sharon Ford's deductive reasoning, but it also means that we don't get to see a lot outside that POV. What is Sharon's uneasy connection to Lady Noir, and why is Sharon able to work with the police? Why is Sam so desperate and violent and her revelation such a surprise to everyone but Sharon? Is there no other way out for her? What is it like to live in this grimy London and what happened to make it that way? What is the rest of the world like? Why is Sharon choosing to live the way she does, and what does that say about women's roles in this world? I suppose I just want to know everything about how it all works, whether through a mystery or backstory or a character study or an OC, to see how the aggressive social Darwinism of the Victorian era and the DIY anarchist ethos of punk pull together to make this world.

Captain Britain and MI:13

My nominated characters are Faiza (Excalibur) and Meggan but I love the whole team, so please feel free to bring in whoever you like. I would love a fic about their adventures, or their downtime, or sniping at each other when they're meant to be working. I'd love to see them fight an invasion, or play cricket, or protect visiting dignitaries from magical terrorists, or battle a former friend or teammate. Splitting up or ignoring canon relationships is totally fine; pre-series and post-series fic would also be interesting. A crossover with other Marvel characters would be fun, too - I'm a particular fan of the assorted X-Men teams and of course Excalibur, but I have a pretty broad (and entirely flexible!) knowledge of Marvel canon if you want someone else to pop over for a visit.

Kuragehime|Princess Jellyfish

I love the Ama House and everyone in it! The way their lives are being shaken up by the furious (and not always well-directed) energy of "Kurako" is a great way to reveal how in the Amas' personalities and obsessions intersect and conflict. I would love a story about Tsukimi making her strange way through the world, Kuranosuke throwing aside cool to discover the fujoshi weirdness and obsession within, or Clara watching the bizarre antics of the humans going by her tank! One of my favourite parts is the way that Tsukimi is channelling her observations of jellyfish into a creative outlet, not just her drawings but as fashion, and the way she and Kuranosuke have to interact with others to make their obsession come to fruition. (I am in no way a jellyfish expert and will not have a clue if you make things up, so don't let that put you off!)

Orphan Black

While I'm a big fan of all the clones and their families and friends, the one I really want to see a story about is the clone whose death kicked off the whole thing, Beth. She and Art obviously had a close and trusting relationship, and yet Art had no idea about Beth's secret life; Beth managed to conduct a secret network right under his nose and yet hadn't found all of her "sisters"; Beth was trying to carry a full load of police work at the same time as doing all of this and hold her relationship together as well; Beth couldn't do it. And yet, she killed herself in front of another clone, Sarah, someone she allegedly didn't know about and certainly hadn't told Allison, Katja or Cosima about. What was going on? Art's story while trying to support and understand his closed-off partner would be great: how much did he know about the "accidental" shooting cover-up of Maggie Chen? I'd also love to see more about him after finding out about the "triplets" situation and not-Beth, or while working with Sarah-as-Beth and trying to understand what is going on with his partner.

Problems - Salmonella Dub (music video)

There are so many questions in this song and video. Answer me some of them, or spin off into another world completely. My only real request is that you don't write an apocalypse scenario. Summer moustaches! This video is full of weird and strange tangents, from the skull marimba to the detention centre, from the case of money to the giant heads. I would love you to write about whatever catches your eye or ear. Crossovers with fandoms I know are very welcome - please feel free to ask
st_aurafina if you're not sure if I'm in a fandom.

Thank you again, and I hope you have a great Yuletide.
