Oh, that is fantastic. You do a great job of tying 'old' and 'new' canon together (which takes skill) and all the characters ans voices are right on. I also love this take on what could have been possible for Jean -- a different path away from the either/or that Charles had set up for her. This is brilliantly imagined and the writing is wonderful.
And thank you - in X3 itself, Charles set up the dichotomy between "bad powerful Phoenix" and "good weak Jean", but the movies did that too - Jean can be powerful/sexy/bad/dead or good/sweet/weak/alive and there's no middle ground allowed. Everyone is more complex than that!
Yes! The film frames Charles as doing wrong when he 'caged' Jean like that, but at the same time replicates that dynamic itself so that Xavier's approach ends up looking justified. This story finds another way to look at that and I admire it for that reason.
This is so good! I was glued to the screen as it all unravelled - and then re-ravelled! I love how you managed to tie everything together, and the characterisation is awesome. Particularly love snarky Emma. Excellent stuff.
Thank you! Sometimes I love writing in canons that don't really make sense, because it leaves a lot of space to be creative (and get around the silliness of X3).
Awww. This is so many things - a great team fic, wonderful melding of canons, individual character studies - and they all work so well. Poor Ororo, she certainly needs a lifetime supply of aspirin. And I loved Emma in this, snarky and just a tad evil but helpful nonetheless.
I loved Ororo being in charge in this, and how, even though she's thrilled to see everyone back, she wants to keep hold of that (and, I do think that everyone is probably better off if she's in charge and Xavier does something else).
And Jean totally would try to fix everything.
I really liked Callisto, and Emma and oh everyone.
The second I watched the end of X3, which had Logan prancing around on the balcony like he owned the place, while Ororo did the actual work with the kids, my head canon became "Ororo is in charge and Logan is the cool and occasionally helpful uncle." Charles was always grooming Scott to be his heir, but I don't think that makes either Charles OR Scott to be the best person for the job!
