The image of Jean knitting 7 items at once is intriguing.

"See, Scott? It's not just power. It's life. I don't have to destroy when I can create. Everything is just matter, and I can knit it together again." Her smile was so relieved that Scott had to smile in return, relaxing a little.

Aw, I like that. For a moment they are both so totally ignoring the reality of the Phoenix. Jean and Scott feeling for a moment that she has everything under control.

Very sweet.

Thank you! I think their love must have been exceptionally strong - not just in a romantic sense, but in the sense of understanding each other - to survive the Phoenix and everything that happened afterwards.

Oh, man, this is amazing. I love that era from the comics, and you've got all the characterizations down great. The "knitting" parallels are perfect and -- it's a really small thing, but Wolverine set MY teeth on edge with his insistence on wanting to get credit for being early. That's just something I've experienced as a teacher; people who are perpetually late or slack do something right -- or even excessive/unnecessary -- one time and want to get credit for it. I think the tension between Scott and Logan here works very well because it's much more subtle than what you usually see (including in canon) and really expresses why they don't get along.

And, if I didn't say it already, I love love love Jean here, and the depiction of them trying to get comfortable in their relationship. One of the reasons the Dark Phoenix era is so emotionally poignant is that you get the feeling they are finally starting to get things right just before everything goes to hell.

Thank you! The idea that everything was just getting good for Scott and Jean - emotionally stable, deeply in love - when the Phoenix came along was really where I started writing this fic. And Wolverine at this time in the comics is so annoying! I think he and Scott are always going to get on each others nerves, but Logan really goes out of his way to undermine Scott's authority and show off. (I had a co-worker like this - she'd want constant praise for just doing the very basics of her job and showing up on time!) I'm glad the tension came across without being intrusive - I wanted the focus to remain very firmly on Scott and Jean.

This is really well done! I like how you balance Scott being scared of Jean (and Jean being scary) with the sheer sweetness of their relationship.

Thank you! Not long after this, their love will overcome brainwashing and cosmic powers, so I felt that it had to be just as strong in the smaller ways, too. Epic love won't let you sleep late!

Thank you for this story. You captured Scott and his undesired tolerance of Logan, fear of Phoenix, and love for Jean. The image of Jean knitting all that at once was great -- I could totally see it. All around excellent job. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! I'm glad the image of Jean knitting came through strongly - it was the image that started the whole story for me.

Oh! Oh! I love this! A whole lot! Seriously, I really do. I love the whole tone of this--it's so perfectly the comics I can see it in my head! In perfect detail! ::is in awe::

I love everyone in this, and I laughed at certain times because, oh, you just had their quirks down so well! And the end--I shivered. To know that Jean thinks she has a handle on it, the Phoenix...::shivers madly:: I love this for all the things we know are coming.

Brilliant! I love it!

I think Jean's doing the best she can, here, with the understanding that she has of her situation, but I'm glad the Air of Inevitable Doom came through well. And mean!Logan was terrific fun to write!
