Dear Yuletide Writer

Dear Yuletide Writer,

Thank you so much for writing a story for me! I've tried to put plenty of information for each fandom, but if you would like to write something completely different please feel free! I am also happy for you to include as many or as few of the nominated characters as you wish. If you're not sure about anything, or want to do a crossover with another fandom and need to check if I know it, just ask my partner
st_aurafina.

Things I enjoy: stories about female characters, plot, character interaction, gen fic or any of femslash/het/slash, exploring a canon world. I also like OCs as a way to expand the canon universe, so if that's a direction you want to go, that would be great too. AUs are fine - both in the sense of a deviation from canon and a completely different world - as long as they're not mundane AUs. Coffee shop no, superpowered coffee shop yes.

Things I don't enjoy: non-con or rape, non-canon character deaths (canon deaths are fair game), mentor/student, adult/teen or adult/child sexual interaction, zombies, apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic AUs, mundane AUs.

Daredevil: Elektra Natchios, Foggy Nelson, Kirsten McDuffie, Samuel Chung

My major request here is that Foggy's battle with cancer is not part of the story, not even in the background, not even a mention. I am a cancer survivor and really, really hate cancer and other serious illnesses being part of superhero stories where other parts of the shared universe have people running around curing spinal breakages and travelling through time. The scale is all wrong.

You are welcome to set this story in any era of Daredevil, and include any other Marvel comics crossovers or cameos you would like.

Elektra acts like she's a force of nature, but her interactions with the characters of this cast are a lot more complicated than she would like, and I love the way that she tried (and often fails) to balance her recklessness and aggressiveness with her need for human contact. I did not like the "fake child" storyline from recent comics, but if you want to write about that in order to subvert it in some way that would be fine.

Foggy is a wonderful guy, who should be getting more respect from Matt, and I would love to see him be the focus of a story, or at least have his great competence shown. If you want to set this in the current canon, I would love to see more of what Foggy is doing without Matt, but with the full knowledge of what has gone before. Matt/Foggy is very welcome, but their long-lasting friendship is the most important thing to me, so if they're in a relationship, that should be building on the friendship rather than replacing it.

Kirsten McDuffie is a wonderful character who takes no shit from Matt and is the superhero of her own life, so I would love to see her, too - maybe Kirsten and the Night Nurse having an adventure, or involved in the logistics of superhero support? And what is she doing now post-San Francisco? I can't imagine that someone who was thrilled to get their own nemesis is going to be content with regular life again.

Samuel Chung is a new favourite of mine, and I especially want to see more of his training and his determination to be a superhero. He's there on the vigilante fringe of society not because he doesn't have the skills to make it elsewhere but because he's legally excluded - every forward step he takes is a dead end in America. The surprise of his mother being very not who he thought she was - and definitely not in need of his protection - was really interesting, and I'd love to see more about why other people in his community were drawn to Ten Fingers but Blindspot was not.

Gladiator: Mentor, Princess, White Warrior

The mixed-up aesthetic and fighting words of this music video are terrific! I am fascinated by the White Warrior finding her part of the medallion as a child and her mentor (grandmother? teacher?) knowing exactly what to do over the next decade to prepare her. How did she know? Does this happen every generation? Then there's the idyllic rural setting of the Warrior's home against the upside-down pyramid and 1920's-style glitz of the Princess's dwelling (or fortress, or prison?) and the amazing mix of iron masks and fighting mixed with fireballs and realistic armour versus a fan mask and pristine white cloth...what kind of a world is this? What does the medallion do, and why did the Princess not go looking for the Warrior, especially as she's the one singing about fighting for your love like a gladiator, yet doing no apparent fighting herself? Or has she been battling the warriors in black all along? I really want to know more about everyone involved here.

"Gladiator" is also a good five-minute fandom if we matched on something else but that's not inspiring you.

Jem and the Holograms: Jerrica Benton | Jem, Kimber Benton, Mary 'Stormer' Phillips, Phyllis "Pizzazz" Gabor

Outrageous! This was my jam in the 90s (I didn't get the right channel in the 80s but I did stare longingly at the Jem dolls in the shops!) and with the fabulous new comics, it's my jam again! I adore the fashions and the wildly differing body types with no judgement, and the combination of fierce friendships and fierce fighting, plus the eternal Mysteries of Pizzazz and the delightful relationship between the outgoing Kimber and the shy Stormer. I would love to see anything about any of these characters, whether it's Jem/Pizzazz PWP or Kimber and Jerrica in elementary school, or Stormer breaking out as a songwriter, or battle of the bands WITH LASERS, or a wild outer space AU! Please feel free to include any other characters as well - these four are just my favourites out of the nominated characters.

Rivers of London: Abigail Kamara

Magic is alive and well and Abigail is on the case! It was great to see the world expand from just Nightingale sequestered in the Folly, to Nightingale and apprentice Peter, to apprentices Peter and Lesley, out to Abigail, young enough to start learning about magic about the same age as Nightingale did, but from a very different England. Abigail is tough and perspicacious but refuses to accept that the world is the way it appears to be, whether that's via finding magic and ghosts or via fighting back against adults' rules about her hair. I would love to see an Abigail adventure, with or without any of the other characters, or what she knows or feels about Lesley's betrayal - or, if Peter and Nightingale didn't warn her, maybe getting in touch with Lesley? Or other agents of the Faceless Man? I would appreciate no romantic interest for Abigail, but background romance or established relationships for any of the adult characters in any combination is fine.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl: Doreen Green, Ken Shiga, Mole Man, Nancy Whitehead

My favourite comic of 2015 AND 2016! I would love something exactly like canon, or something amazingly different from canon - Squirrel Girl contains multitudes! Acerbic Nancy could have her own superhero adventure with Mew, or we could learn the secret origin of Koi Boi (how do you find out that you can talk to fish?) or send Squirrel Girl to another universe or five, or have a magnificent superhero team-up! One thing that I particularly enjoy is that Squirrel Girl sees everyone as a person, from the tiniest squirrel to Galactus, and doesn't consider anyone below (or above!) her. She's a problem solver, even if, like Kraven, you didn't know you had a problem. Give her a problem to solve, and see what happens! I especially liked the social media aspect of the Mole Man storyline, where everyone was pressuring Squirrel Girl to just go along with Mole Man and save all the buildings - what other stories and/or rumours go around about Squirrel Girl? Do Mole Man and his new love start them?
