You Give Me Fever, Chapter Three

Title: You Give Me Fever

Pairing: Adam/Kris

Rating: PG13 for language and some suggestive situations.  (I suck at writing sex scenes, so nothing R or NC17)

Summary: Kris has been in denial about his sexuality since he was a teenager, but a potentially deadly fever (and a lot of Adam) is going to change that.

Disclaimer: Not real, not mine, not making any money from this.

Author's Notes/Warnings: This fic was inspired by the AMAZINGLY talented astolat 's Cookleta fic "Real Forever If".  Just so ya know - I felt free to change the facts around and make stuff up wherever it suits my twisted needs - that includes song choices, religions, and just about anything else.  Cheers to my already faithful commenters - rachn2009 , satanicfloret , kissmedirty , and anobakitay .  You guys rock my world!   I also want to dedicate this chapter to the three Matthews in my life - my precious baby brother Matthew, who just made the Dean's List for the second semester in a row;  Matthew Haldeman-Time, who is such a huge inspiration to me; and Prince Matthew, simply for being there and encouraging my insanity.  Previous chapters can be found on my personal journal.

As soon as Adam and Kris arrived at the Judge's mansion the next morning, Adam cornered one of the production assistants and explained the situation to him.  The West Hollywood resident wanted to make sure that there wouldn't be any problems if either he or Kris got into the Top 36 and the other one didn't.  There were laws in place to protect victims of Bayard's Fever and their Objects, so the production assistant easily agreed to what Adam wanted.  After a quick discussion about arrangements that might need to be made in the future, Adam joined Kris where he was sitting with Matt, Anoop, Danny, Danny's friend Jamal, and teenager Allison Iraheta whom Adam and Kris had basically adopted during the past week.

"So you're moving in with Adam?"  Matt was asking Kris.

"Yeah, we decided that made the most sense,"  Kris replied.  "Although my parents probably won't think so."

"I've been praying that God will open their eyes,"  Danny spoke quietly.

"Thank you, Danny,"  Kris smiled at his new friend.  "You've been a great help to me in dealing with this."

"We both appreciate everything you've said,"  Adam added.

"Can I ask you something?"  Allison was looking at Adam.

"Sure, baby girl - fire away,"  Adam encouraged the red head.

"Have you ever been an Object before?"  She wanted to know.  "I mean - you're so hot you've probably give a lot of guys the Fever."

"Actually, I've been an Object twice before,"  Adam smiled at the memories.  "First time was when I was 17, he was 15.  Kyle lived with my Mom until he graduated high school because his stepdad was such an ass.  Then about five years ago, this 18-year-old kid fresh out of the cornfields of Indiana moved in with me for about a year and a half."

"So your standard operating procedure is to assimilate them into your life?"  Anoop teased.

"Not on purpose,"  Adam protested.  "And in Kris' case, I don't think he's going to be able to go back to his old life."

"Again, sitting right here,"  Kris snorted.

"I hope they let us know soon,"  Matt commented.  "This waiting is giving me ulcers."

"The longer the judges take, the longer I can put off talking to Katy and my parents,"  Kris bit his lower lip.  Adam rubbed his back soothingly.

"So you were married really young, right?"  Allison asked Kris.  "Isn't that what GPs do?  To someone your parents picked out?"

"Yeah - I was 15 and Katy was 14 when our marriage was arranged,"  Kris told her.  "Our parents let us wait until I finished high school to actually have the ceremony."

"And you never thought to question it?"  Jamal asked.

"Not...not out loud,"  Kris said.

"When everyone around you are doing the same thing and its totally different from the way you want to do things,"  Adam spoke up.  "You become convinced that you're the deviant and you need to be fixed."

In the end, everyone in their small group but Jamal made it through to the next round.  Matt joked that Adam's fierceness had rubbed off on the rest of them.  Adam and Kris got into Adam's car, just sitting there for a few minutes.  Finally, Kris spoke.

"Time to get it over with, I guess,"  He pulled out his cellphone and dialed a familiar number.  "Hey Mom - its me.........no, its good news.  I made it.............I am excited, its just that..........Listen, there's something I need to tell you.  I'm not coming home for awhile.........I've got Bayard's Fever...........I know its not funny!.......... Mom, please!!.........Dad, I didn't................No one drugged me!................No one brainwashed me either!..................Please don't say that!"  Adam couldn't take anymore and grabbed the phone from Kris.

"Mr. Allen, my name is Adam Lambert and I am Kris' Object..........name calling is not going to help...........I'm very sorry that you're upset, but I cannot allow anyone to treat Kris so badly.............You must be Katy....................Would you rather he be dead and you unhumiliated?......................If that's your attitude, then thank GOD he's with me now.  And let me remind you that the moment he was diagnosed, by law your marriage was over.  So, while Mr. and Mrs. Allen will be welcome in our home once they come to their senses - you stay the HELL away from us Katy."
