I really, really want to be able to make screencaps. My computer has a DVD player in it. What else do I need? Free stuff is best, of course, but I'm willing to pay if I have to.

Thank you. I think it's good you asked your very first question, because I have a CD-ROM/DVD drive. I think that means it's not a DVD-ROM, right?

no, if it will play dvds, it should work for you. as long as you can watch dvds on your computer, you should be good to go.

I can and do watch DVDs on the computer. In fact, it uses PowerDVD. Does that mean there's a shortcut?

as long as you have the full version, you should be able to just open teh dvd with powerdvd, and then -- the keyboard shortcuts are to use the space bar to pause, and then the t key to advance frame by frame. you can use ctrl-b to go back, frame by frame. There should be a little camera icon on the control panel, and you can click that to make a screencap, or you can just click 'c'.

to set where you want to save the screencaps, go to 'configuration', and then click on the 'advanced' button on the player tab; you can choose to have it capture to file and browse to where you want them saved.

I know jodi had a problem with her powerdvd because she didn't have a full version; if this is the case with you, let me know and I'll upload the one I have for you.
