This was a fun project. House Hunters is my favorite show....and I've been meaning for awhile to write a Sim version. Enjoy!
Meet Eleanor Kendall. She is a 25 year-old SimState University graduate who has lived a renter's lifestyle for the past four years. While Eleanor has enjoyed her lifestyle, she is ready to move on and up in the world. With the help of Audrey, her real estate agent, Eleanor hopes to find a comfortable starter home in the classy small town of Riverblossom Hills.
"After graduating from SimState, I got a job in the journalism business, and have building my career over the past four years. Renting with my friends has helped me save some money, but I now feel that I'm ready for the next step. I'm excited to work with Audrey and hope that she can help me find my first place."
"Hi Eleanor, I'm really excited to show you the first house...I think you're really gonna like it."
"Great...I'm so ready!"
HOUSE #1
Audrey takes Eleanor to view the first home at 125 Huckleberry Ln. in Riverblossom Hills. At just 13,470 Simoleons, it is well within Eleanor's budget of 20,000.
Eleanor: "Wow, great curb appeal! Look at that beautiful porch! I can really see myself sitting out there in the morning with a cup of coffee and the newspaper!"
Audrey: "Let's take a look inside."
The first house is a one bedroom, one bathroom home with a big lot, big porch, and a fishing pond in the backyard. There is also a cozy living room, small kitchen, and separate dining room.
"Wow, I love these hardwood floors Audrey, this living room is really cute. However, I can't help but notice the wallpaper in some of the other rooms. It is definitely not my style, and taking down wallpaper is really a little more work than I'm wanting to do."
Even though Eleanor really liked the house from the curb, the interior definitely needed some work.
"I wasn't too keen on the size, it's pretty small. I'm not sure the bedroom would fit all of my furniture. Also, I was hoping that I could have two bedrooms, or at least some extra space for an office. I'd really like a separate space for writing....but the lot is big enough (and cheap enough), that I could expand sometime in the future if I wanted to I guess. I'm gonna keep this house on the list, but keep looking."
HOUSE #2
Next, Audrey takes Eleanor to a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom modern style house that is priced at 16,200 Simoleons. It is located at 202 Town Center Road, and is therefore right in the middle of "downtown" Riverblossom Hills.
Eleanor: "Even though this home doesn't have the beautiful front porch like the last house, the style of this home is less country and alot more modern, which I definitely like. But, it looks really small."
Audrey: "Yes, this home is definitely a smaller house on a smaller lot than the first home we looked at. However, this house has a sun roof over the dining space, a much more open floor plan, and a cute back yard with a separate green house. Let's take a look inside."
Eleanor: "Hmmm....ok...this house is definitely pretty cute on the inside. I really like the natural light, and how open it is. However, it is really small.
"I really don't like the one tiny bathroom, and that wallpaper in there is definitely straight of a 60's horror film. This kitchen is really bright and open, but the appliances need some serious updating. I was really hoping for some stainless steel and granite..."
"But the hardwood floors are nice, and the bedroom is a decent size. There's still no extra space for writing though. Can we check out the outdoor space?"
Audrey: "Lead the way.."
Audrey: "Ok Eleanor...as you can see, the backyard is pretty small. However, what do you think of the greenhouse over there?"
Eleanor: "Well, I'll tell ya Audrey...in my apartments in SimCity I never really had the space to get into gardening. However, this greenhouse really inspires me to join the local garden club!"
Audrey: *laughs* "I heard the garden club is quite picky....so I would start studying how to garden right away..."
"So, the benefits of House #2 are the open floor plan, lots of light decent-sized bedroom, and green house in the backyard. However, the bathroom is really small, and there's still no separate space for writing...so I'm going to keep this house on the list, but keep looking."
HOUSE #3
Audrey: "Ok Eleanor, this house just came on the market, and it's priced at 18,239 Simoleons. It is a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom home. However, it has an extra loft space that I think would be perfect for your home office/writing space. It also has a cute front porch, second floor balcony, and a big bathroom."
Eleanor: "Sounds great. Let's take a look inside."
"This house definitely has a very country, rustic feel that's not quite my taste...I really want to bring the big city to Riverblossom Hills....but I think this space is workable. This bedroom is quite small though, I doubt my big bed would fit in here...but it does still have nice hardwood floors, which I like."
"But this loft space and balcony would be the PERFECT spot to get some writing done. I can definitely see myself working up here, or outside if it's nice. This extra space is a definite bonus."
Eleanor: "This house is really cute, but very rustic and not my taste. However, the extra space on the second floor is really nice. The main concern I have about this house, is actually a structural one. We noticed that there's no foundation, and the whole home is supported on the corners by what looks like stilts....I would be concerned that this would be an issue at home inspection time, and could cost me some major simoleons. However, it's positive qualities will keep this home as a contender."
HOUSE #4
The fourth house that Audrey brings Eleanor to see is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath home that is near the top of her budget at 18,020 Simoleons.
Audrey: "Eleanor, I'm really excited to show you this house. It is the biggest house we've seen so far, and I think it has just about everything you're looking for. It has a large master bedroom, a separate room for your writing, 2 bathrooms, a large kitchen, and large living room. Let's take a look."
Eleanor: "Wow, this kitchen is definitely the biggest we've seen so far. This is also a very country style room, but I could change that. I notice that they have a table in here, does that mean that there is no separate dining room?"
Audrey: "Yes, this home has no dining room, but the kitchen is big enough that I think you could fit a full sized table in here if you wanted to."
Eleanor: "WOW! This bedroom is HUGE, Audrey! It would definitely fit all of my furniture. This blue carpet is pretty outdated and ugly, though. I really love the second bedroom as well. I could definitely see myself spreading out and being able to get alot of writing done there."
Eleanor: "This backyard is quite spacious, and the fishing pond is huge! It's really peaceful and beautiful out here. However, it would be alot of work to maintain."
Audrey: "What do you think of this house, Eleanor?"
Eleanor: "Overall, I really like this home. It's definitely the biggest we've seen so far and has alot of what I'm looking for. However, the yard is quite big, and I would want to do some updating and changes to the interior, which could be costly. I'll keep this on the list as well."
HOUSE #5
Since Audrey has taken Eleanor to see 4 great houses that didn't quite match what Eleanor was looking for, Audrey decides to take a risk and show Eleanor a house that is the largest out of the three. It is 5,000 Simoleons over her budget, at 25,000 but it just might be the one.
"Ok Eleanor, I think this might be the one. This is a 2 bedroom, 2 bath home on a medium lot. It has a living room, kitchen/dining space, master suite, separate office space, and a greenhouse. Both bathrooms are quite large, and there is a bonus space on the second level, in addition to the second bedroom. I think either room would work well for your home office."
Eleanor: "Audrey, I am in LOVE with this house! It is everything I'm looking for. Even though it is over my budget, I think I can rework some of my finances to make it affordable. I'd like to write an offer."
Audrey went straight to work with Eleanor to write an affordable but competitive offer. Riverblossom Hills is an upcoming community, and therefore Eleanor had to wait a week before she heard anything. Two other families had made offers on this great home. However, in the end, Eleanor's offer was accepted. Six months later, she's moved in and has made some major changes!"
Audrey: "It was a pleasure working with you, Eleanor. How do you like your new home?"
Eleanor: "You know, Audrey...it was a risk buying this home since it was over my budget, but I really think it was worth it. It's everything I was looking for, and more. It did need some work on the inside, but I was really able to make it my own.
Eleanor: "In the end, this home is really my dream and I'm finally able to settle in a place I can call home. Thank you so much Audrey!"
Audrey: " Great success! My work here is done."
THE END
