Wow!

Today, a man was bitten by a shark about 100 feet off of Clearwater Beach near Pier 60. He was not badly hurt, didn't loose the foot and didn't even need to go to the hospital. He didn't need stitches, only bandages to stop the bleeding from the puncture wounds on the top and bottom of his foot. He and others saw the shark and estimated it was 5 to 7 feet long. They couldn't identify what type of shark it was. They cleared the water for a little while and no one else was hurt.

Also, today, a 24-year-old woman migrant worker who was picking vegetables in a field while it was raining was struck by lightening. She was conscious as she was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital and, although at first doctors thought she might have been paralysed, she is expected to make a full recovery now.

Earlier this weekend, elsewhere in Tampa, three men who were standing under palm and pine trees in the front yard of one of the men were also struck by lightening. It was not raining, thundering or even cloudy at the time. One of them went into cardiac arrest, but survived. The other two escaped without serious injury.

I'm agog at these close-calls that beat all odds. Happy for those involved though since it could have been much worse...

Also, it has rained here every day without fail for 14 days straight now (since May 12th). I am beginning to wonder if someone has been casting spells or working some hoodoo or selling their soul to get green grass in their yard again because it's highly irregular weather for us this time of year. The rainy season doesn't start until June 1st (which is also the beginning of the Atlantic Hurricane season), daily rain doesn't usually happen until later in the summer, and up until 14 days ago, we've had a much drier than usual year so far. Average rainfall for May is about 2.5 inches. We've had nearly 7 inches so far this month, and the month is not yet over. So, really, I'm thinking something supernatural must be at work because it's just too timely. Really, the Southwest Florida Water Management declares the drought is so bad that no one can water their lawns because our reservoir is completely dry and then the next week the rain starts? It's so timely! Not that I really should be complaining because we're still in a severe drought despite all this rain.
