Life is very sweet at the moment.
I had a talk to Graham today. He gave me a choice to make.
Apparently there are two ways to do the statistical analysis/results section in my thesis. I did it the first way because of the original experimental design, but he has come up with a cleaner, academically better way of doing it. This has good and bad aspects.
Bad - it will take me a couple of days to work through it and replace the relevant parts of my thesis
Good - it will mean I can't get marks taken off for it if they notice that it should have been done the other way.
Now ... the reason this is important is that Graham thinks I have a -very- good thesis. And he has said its a good possibility that I will get a First. If I do ... then I get the University Medal.
Its something that is only given to one person per year (max) at the university, and crosses across all campuses ... so its a huge deal, and would mean a lot to me longterm if I want to continue with an academic career in any way shape or form in the future.
So ... even though it is hugely tempting to hand in my thesis tomorrow and be done with it, I have decided to put in the couple of days work in the New Year, and hand it in then ... and take my chances at getting a First.
I can't even imagine what it would feel like to win the University Medal. I have been trying to work out what the kids and I could do to celebrate - it would have to be HUGE. Suggestions please? :)
