Hannah did not make a liar out of me last night , we arrived at the sleep clinic around 8, Hannah was hooked up to all of the monitors and ready for sleep around 9.
She took about 90 minutes to fall asleep (she normally takes between 30 minutes and 4 hours depending on her day). In the first 2 hours of her sleep (I was awake) she woke up 11 times at an average of two minutes a time but managed to put herself back to sleep... she also snored heavily (normal for her)
The nurse/clinician, Leah, had set up a cot for me in Hannah's room but I wanted to make sure she was definitely asleep before I went to sleep so I wouldn't disturb her... hard to do when she was waking up every 10 minutes, but I finally got in there around 12:30
From 12:30 to 3:50 Hannah woke up an average of 4 times an hour, each time staying away for 2-5 minutes but put herself back to bed, she slept almost a solid hour at this point but woke up at 4:45 and was wide awake (I was up at this point too), she finally fell back asleep at 5:15 and I caught a 30 minute cat nap.
At 6 am Leah had to take all of the equipment off, I'm sure you can imagine how that went over since she was finally sleeping on a solid time frame again... but Leah was really patient and Hannah woke up after about 10 minutes of prodding.
I'm a little annoyed that it took THIS long to get in for the sleep study, especially since Leah said with the amount of snoring Hannah does, her tonsils will most likely be the first thing to go, apparently they start this on toddlers and she was surprised the pediatrician didn't suggest it when she was 3 (rather than prescribing a sedative and telling me she had low blood iron)... I am glad I finally just broke down and went back to our family doc or this would have continued and frankly, she and I both need some sleep... it's hard not to be cranky when you're only getting 4-5 hours of sleep a night.
Our next appointment is in two weeks, they'll give us the results and hopefully we'll have some answers
