Well, it has been an eventful past day. I had to go to a staff meeting at work this morning... and my car was acting a bit funny. It kept sounding like it was revving too high, though the RPM meter didn't show anything. Got to work fine, then the drive home is a different story. The car started fine, and I got out of the parking tower fine, but the drive through town the car kept revving and revving, I couldn't hardly get above 40 mph, the RPM meter kept jumping wildly. It was shaking and stuttering. I've had this car since 2002, I know at what speed and RPM the car shifts gears, it was like the car was trying to shift but nothing was happening.
All this leads me to believe it was the transmission. After talking to my parents thats what they thought too. Let me give some background on my car. Its a Pontiac Grand Am GT, 1998 model with 184+k miles on it. The paint is coming off, the interior is ragged, there is damage on the rear passenger door/wheel well from a wreck a few years ago. So needless to say the car is not worth putting a transmission in. I get nervous everytime I drive it, worrying wheither when its gonna die on me for good, especially when I have to go to Memphis for one of my tests.
So after a lil thought and refiguring my finances, my Dad took me out and the search for a new car began. So, I found a blue 2006 Chevy Cobalt. A wonderful smaller car, that gets 24/32!! The only feature that she doesn't have is power windows, but that is just one less thing to break. She only has 50,000 miles for a 2006 I figured that was pretty good compared to some of the other things I've looked at. 220 including a great warrent (my credit score was better than I thought)! I'll get some pics up in the next few days.
But it couldn't have come at a worse time.... if only it had waited for May. By then I'd have most everything saved for school. The last thing I needed was a car payment. With even as low as the payment is it still cuts my the money I was trying to save for schoo in half. I have a few ideas about how to change my finances around that'll help with the school expenses, even though it'll put me a little more deeper in debt. But once school is over and done with, I can start climbing out of debt..... So needless to say its been a rather stressful day! The worst part of the day was driving my old car back to the dealership, I almost didn't make it... she almost stopped on several occasions.
But it was sad in a way... I've had that car for so long, we've been through alot together! It was kinda like putting an old friend to rest/pasture. But its just another part of my pass to put behind me. Here's looking to the future!
