Monday December 26th around 3 pm, exploring the area

Jun 02, 2009 10:28

Neha had decided it was time to explore the area and see what was around them.  She was smiling as she walked down the street and looked around.  She'd only been to a few places and she was curious about the neighbors and the areas closest to theirs.  She didn't expect that there would be any trouble and she'd told her grandmother and mother to ( Read more... )

Two weeks had passed since Rei was attacked and still information was bleak. It was unacceptable to Shige; an unanswered threat. With parents out of the house during the break and Rei away doing something with his family, Shige used this as an opportunity to look. He found himself lurking in unfamiliar turfs, searching for either the guy that kept stalking Shige or the guy Shige marked permanently when protecting Rei. Nothing. He could find nothing except for paranoia. The feeling that someone was always one step behind him, instead of the other way around in this manhunt.

Growing frustrated, Shige took to the skies. He took advantage of forgotten pallets and boxes, creating enough ground leverage to launch him at the fire escape and grab hold of the ladder. The ladder, which was used to access the ground level, was locked in an upright position to prevent burglaries. It failed to prevent giving access to Shige as he managed to pull his body up onto the landing. He placed himself on the steps leading to the third floor, and waited.

Not long after he had chosen a new resting position did people -or thugs- began to file past as they moved from one location to the next. Shige went unseen, but their conversations provided useless information. Nothing on what Shige was searching for. There was talk of a foreigner -a woman- that was in the area. One guy even went as far as to make gestures of what he would do to her if she came across his path.

They hadn't much made it around the corner before Shige spotted her from his perched location. It wasn't odd for women to be in those areas. Many women worked those areas. It was the ones that obviously didn't belong that were trouble. And those girls Shige normally didn't care to steer away from trouble. This girl was definitely a foreigner. And she caught Shige's eyes long enough that he decided to stand up and walk to the railing.

"Hey you," he called out.

Neha was carefully watching her surroundings, but of course she didn't expect anyone to call from above her head either. She jumped at the sound of someone calling out and looked up.

"Hello...?" She said, her accent was a little heavier than normal since she was startled. Although the initial expression of startled fear dropped away, it was clear from her face that she was worried and lost.

"Um...I don't suppose you can point me to a train station? I'm a little lost..." she said after a moment, hoping that he'd give her a direction since she was getting more worried the further she walked. Her enunciation was a little too strong, but she was understandable.

Shige listened carefully to her, trying to pinpoint her accent. He knew all to well of five Iranian males that ran a drug ring in Shibuya. They were a rough group, playing by unknown rules. Shige had decided it was best just to keep his distance. And fortunately her accent was not of Iran.

"Train station? The nearest one is still pretty far away." He hopped onto the other side of the railing, slowly lowering his body down till he was in a reasonable height to drop. "I take it, Miss, that you aren't from around here. Otherwise you wouldn't have ventured off in this direction."

Neha's disappointment was obvious when he said the train station was still far away. She'd been hoping it was close so that she could find her way home. She watched as he dropped down and waited until he was within a reasonable distance before replying, since she didn't want to shout.

"No...My family just moved from Rajasthan in India. My parents told me to look around...and I got lost. Somehow, I ended up here." Her voice was slightly husky and had a pleasant quality that was only enhanced by her accent.

Neha's accent wasn't the only obvious difference from Japanese girls. Her proportions and the structure of her face were exotic and obviously different. She was surprisingly curvy for a slender girl of 5'1" and had longer legs than the average Japanese girl of the same height. Big doe-like brown eyes looked at him without an ounce of fear, which showed that she was as dangerously naive as she was different.

Shige was not familiar with Rajasthan (nor did he know it existed until she mentioned it), but that was unimportant. What was important was that he was correct in that her accent was not Iranian. It was likely that she was not sent here from other drug lords, and thus did not possess any immediate threat.

His eyes traced her body, looking for potential hidden weapons, and also admiring what he saw. Gakuin had it's fair share of curvy females, but not from where she was from. 'Those legs...if only she weren't such a shrimp,' he thought. Shige was 5'9", so he towered over her. She was hot, nonetheless, though he bit his tongue from making any comments.

"Some parts of Tokyo are better left unexplored. A lot of dangerous stuff goes on in these parts, so you'd be best to avoid it altogether. Especially someone with your looks...you're gonna attract a lot of unwanted attention." His sister was flat as a board, and he still didn't like her around parts like these. He was surprised someone of her caliber had made it as far as she did.

She sighed at the comment about her looks. "If I'd known everyone would stare at me as if I'd grown two heads, then I might have begged to stay in India. Honestly, you'd think people never saw foreigners around here." She evidently thought that people were just not used to foreigners rather than that she was pretty enough to attract attention.

Neha looked around the area, clearly not liking what she was seeing. Her face was expressive and she made no attempt to hide her thoughts. "I kind of figured this wasn't the best area...if I hadn't gotten lost, I wouldn't even be here."

The main reason she hadn't gotten caught was because she'd taken such a convoluted route in her explorations that it was hard to follow exactly where she'd gone. She kept making unexpected turns during her walk, which resulted in followers losing track of where she'd gone. She was accidentally missing potential attackers simply by virtue of her attempts to find her way back to the main road.

"Oh we've seen plenty foreigners, but none with an exquisite beauty like the one you possess, Miss." He chuckled at her response to the area. He wouldn't normally come to this area either, not without back up. "If you would allow, I could lead you back towards the train station. That is, if you think you can trust me."

Neha dropped her eyes at the compliment, a shy smile tugging at her lips. Her skin-tone didn't show the blush as obviously as a Japanese girls, but a slight tint of color could be seen if he looked carefully.

She listened to his complete statement and then looked up at him. She flashed him a sudden sassy smile. "Mister, if you'd intended to harm me, then you've had plenty of opportunity already. Besides, you seem like a patient hunter. I'll bet you already know that some things are worth a little extra work. Please help me to the train station."

Shige nodded, impressed. "You're either very intuitive or very naive. To the train station we go." He circled around her and stopped, holding out his hand in the direction they were to go. "This way. My face isn't very known in these parts, so we'd best head away from here." He said this as he watched a group of guys emerge from an different alley. They slowly came to a stop, speaking quietly among themselves. Shige lowered his head, tilting it just slightly, his eyes narrowing to a dare. The guys didn't move, but were still discussing something with each other. "Sooner better than later."

Naive she might be, but Neha wasn't stupid. She could see the guys emerge just as well as he could. She calmly started walking the direction he told her, not showing the least little bit of fear. She just as calmly picked up a metal pipe she spotted, testing the weight and heft as she walked. It would make a good equalizer. "You know, I think playing cricket as a kid might just be a handy skill."

The grin she tossed Shige was just a little wobbly and her voice had taken on a slightly husky edge. They were little signs that she was scared, but she was sassy enough not to let a little thing like fear cause her to freeze up either.

Shige would have advised her against taking the pipe, but he had a feeling that regardless these guys were intending to trail them, wanting her. The moment Neha grabbed the pipe, the guys quit talking, visibly straightening up. Shige didn't break his stare. He recognized the guys from earlier, one of the few that were talking about Neha. He half wondered if they knew him too, but honestly didn't care. It wouldn't change the outcome.

They were outnumbered. There were three of them, but one was strung out. His inability to keep focused told Shige that he wouldn't be hard to handle, other than a high pain tolerance. The other two were wild cards. Who knew what they had up their sleeves.

He broke his stare to assess the environment around him, including the nearest escape. “I hope you know how to use that, Lady,” Shige expressed as the guys started heading towards them. Shige took a step forward in their direction, making him the obvious target instead of her. They understood the gesture, as one of the guys launched himself towards Shige.

Now Shige wasn’t a professional fighter, nor did he have training. What he knew is what he learned on the street the hard way. Being in a gang, especially one that deals primarily in narcotics, he learned how to fight quickly. The first guy swung widely, and at the same time, Shige brought his arms up before him, crossed in an X, one arm bracing the other and preventing the fist from connecting with his head. The hit was hard enough to push him backwards, which he allowed. He shifted his weight to his arm, bringing his right leg in a sweeping motion and coming in contact with the back of the guy’s heel. The guy’s face winced in pain as his leg was swept out from beneath him sending him crashing to the ground. The second guy, the strung out one, was right behind him. Shige brought his foot back around and twisted his body, bringing him back to his feet. He continued the twisting motion, causing him to orbit around the second guy. Shige leapt, grabbing a hold of a chain that was originally holding the fire escape ladder in place.

The chain didn’t become loose right away. Shige wrapped it around his arms to put his weight in to it, and just as the second guy had started to swing at Shige, blade in hand, the chain released. Shige again fell to the ground, coincidentally avoiding the swipe of the pocketknife. He rolled onto his back, using his arms to propel his body back into standing position. He yanked the chain in one direction and then quickly in another. It collided with the guy’s jaw in a sickening crack, the long end wrapping around the guy’s neck. Shige tugged it again, the chain tearing into his own hands in the process as he grabbed a forgotten broomstick resting again the wall. He jabbed the broom towards the first guy hitting him in the chest and preventing him from standing back up.

Neha wasn't a fighter and being a brahmin, her chances of facing such a situation in India was low. However, Muslim/Hindu fighting still took place regularly in India and her father had made sure that at least she'd be able to defend herself if it was necessary.

She calmly watched the attackers move forward, giving no sign of the adrenaline that was telling her it would be a good time to run like hell. When the third guy went for her instead of Shige, she was already prepared to do what was necessary. The guy expected her to be the easy target, given her petite size, so he just attempted to grab her.

She ducked under the arms that tried to grab her and swung the metal pipe up with the full force of her body behind it, exactly like she would a cricket bat, though the angle was just a little off. Small she might be, but she was also ridiculously lucky. She caught the third guy on the chin with the pipe hard enough to rattle his brain and watched in surprise as he just dropped.

She cautiously poked the guy with the pipe, somehow expecting him to be playing possum. When he didn't react, she hesitated a second before hitting him again just to make sure he really was unconscious before turning her attention back to the front. The second hit was nowhere near as forceful as the first, but it was enough to satisfy her that the guy was not getting back up in the next few seconds.

She turned her attention back to Shige and his fight, catching the point from when he grabbed the chain. She was awed by the scene, but made herself keep an eye on the guy she'd knocked out and watch for either of the other two who might decide to change tactics and try to get around Shige. She also glanced around cautiously to make sure there were no hidden attackers who might come out when they least expected it.

His face changed as the pain of the chain was becoming noticeable. He didn't let go though, the guy that was at the other end was on his knees, grasping at the chain and pleading. The other guy was coughing from the jab. Shige found his composure and looked towards Neha. His brows rose, impressed that the third guy was already taken care of. Turning his attention back to the guys he had, he swung the broom at the wall, breaking the end off and leaving a nice splintered end. He looked towards the guy that coughing and held the broken broom so that it was pointing directly at him. "You have just a few seconds to get out of here or tomorrow you won't recognize the person in the mirror." The guy was pissed. He started at Shige, but then stopped at the gurgling sound coming from his partner. The guy looked at the one held by the chain, before turning his back and retreating.

Shige released his breath, relieved that the guy left. He started to wrap the chain up so that he could approach the other guy without lessening the chain. When he was close enough, he brought the broom handle across the guy's head. When his eyes closed, Shige gave one more tug of the chain (to make sure he wasn't pretending), and then dropped it.

"Now we shall go. Quickly, before he comes back with his friends," Shige said to her, as he pulled out a bandanna to wrap up his hand.

Neha nodded, dropping the metal pipe automatically. "Hey Mister...are you ok?" She asked, looking at his hand with concern. She didn't have any problem with leaving, though she was starting to feel sick and was getting more pale as the adrenaline reduced.

"...umm...I didn't kill that person, did I?" She asked suddenly, looking very much appalled suddenly. She didn't think about it when she hit him, but she was starting to worry now that it wasn't quite so immediate.
