So, I guess it wasn't our year after all. I actually cried at the end of the game, how lame is that? I've just seen how damn hard our boys have worked this year and the devestation on their faces just broke my heart. Congrats to Boston, they played an amazing game last night.
A word to my flistys, no I didn't end up going over to Van yesterday and I'm really glad I didn't. I'm sure you've seen in the news that some serious bullshit went down last night. I've seen some seriously twisted versions coming out, so I'd like to set the record straight. Vancouver - well, all of BC for that matter - LOVES their hockey team, the Canucks. So much so that over 125K people came downtown to watch the last game of the finals on a big screen together. At the end of the game, Boston won the cup and we lost. Some trouble makers started stirring up the crowd, shouting taunts and getting into fist fights. As it turns out, the many of the instigators later arrested were not fans, but reportedly proffessional rioters from Seattle, Portland, Montreal & Toronto. These guys came prepared to start shit; they had waterbottles full of gasoline and brought crowbars. There were several disgruntled, very drunk young people who joined them. They flipped a car and set it on fire, then all hell broke loose. I'm sure you've seen the footage of what happened next.
My point is this: there are over 5 million people in my province, most of whom are die-hard Canucks fans. Out of those millions, only a few hundred fucktards decided to trash the city. These were NOT real fans being sore losers. Would sore losers give the Bruins a standing ovation when they were handed the cup? No. The asshats who did this are NOT real fans and are NOT representative of how we act when defeated. REAL fans showed up the next morning to help clean up the mess. REAL fans are helping out police by identifying the culprits. Please, please, please do not think for an instant that true Canucks fans condone ANY of this behaviour. These violent idiots do NOT represent Canuck fans, Vancouver, BC or Canada. I just hope you know that.
OK, I'm done now.
