"I don't know, Arthur," Merlin said, peering through the thick wires of the the Pencil Holder. "It looks dangerous."
"Ha!" Arthur cried, waving his sword. "It is nothing to me. Why, it's teeth -"
"It's teeth are as long as your arm!" Merlin said. "We don't need to pass that way."
"I will not bend to the will of a Stapler," Arthur replied. He swung his sword again, knocking into one of the Pencils and sending it skittering around the Pencil Holder. Merlin leapt out of the way; he had dulled the Pencil points with magic, but he didn't dare do more in such close quarters with Arthur. "We go through," Arthur cried. "Not around."
Merlin allowed himself to be heaved out of the Pencil Holder, and then he helped Arthur up and out as well. His chest was heaving, heart pounding. It was a dangerous path to the Stapler, and what would they do when they get there, he wondered. Merlin gripped Arthur's arm, told him "Please, Arthur, I don't -"
"Just stay behind me," Arthur said. He gave Merlin a quick hug, pressed their foreheads together. "Don't you trust me, Merlin?"
"With my life," Merlin replied.
Arthur grinned, and charged into battle.
