Happy Birthday, America!

So today I tried going to the Annual 4th of July Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, but I didn't make it to watching the fireworks. It rained off and on starting from around 5:00pm. I was cold and miserable, so I left early...I stayed long enough to hear the 1812 Overture, complete with cannon fire and some fireworks. So I figured at least I saw some, so that was good enough.

The last few days had been so nice too, and then the weather had to get all crappy! I really miss San Diego. I kept lamenting the fact that I couldn't be at the beach. We were sitting along the Charles river, and it was really nice while it wasn't raining.

Oh, I almost forgot my "exciting" story for the day. So this weird guy comes up to my friends and me, and we're just blatantly ignoring him. I'm talking keeping our backs to him. One friend felt kind of bad for him, so she sort of responded to him. He kept saying we needed to try his "shit" which apparently was vodka poured into orange soda. Obviously, we didn't. Then he kept saying "I know you're in college, just tell me what college you go to" and yeah, none of us are in college. Granted, not like we would've told him if we were. But yeah, he decided to plop down in the area next to us, and for the most part he wasn't bothering us. Although at one point, he like leaned over and touched my hand, he said he wanted to ask us something, my friend flipped out on him and threatened to get the police if he bothered us again. He chose to respond with a particular finger.

After a while he was just sleeping on his backpack...okay and by sleeping I really mean passed out. So while he was out, it was obviously fine. He then proceeded to wake up, to throw up a bit. Mind you, there are a TON of people all around, and we're all kind of starring at him, and people are making comments to each other. There was a dad with his two pre-teen/teen age daughters, and I knew he was going to get pissed. I was right, at some point he went to get police officers and they came back tried to get the guy to talk to them, he of course didn't want to. They eventually got him to stand up (he wasn't doing so well on his own) and took him away. A couple of the girls kind of felt bad for him. I mean if he was just around being weird or obnoxious it would've been one thing, but the guy was obxnious and trahsed. I didn't have too much sympathy. So yeah, that's my story of the day.

At any rate, Happy Birthday, America! Even when I'm disappointed with our government and so many aspects of our politcal system, or our media, or American "superiority" in general...I think I can rather honestly say I'm proud to be an American (yes I can say I'm corny too).
