I haven’t really worked much with disabled students, but I have worked with a few that are high-functioned students, and I’ve also observed students in other classes that were highly disabled. It is important to have a revised lesson plan for disabled students and it needs to be adaptive to their learning style. What I normally do, is I would communicate with the student and inquire with them how would they like to learn and how they would like to receive instructions.
The revised lesson is usually different from what the other students are receiving. It usually is more of a guide tool for the disabled student, but yet it helps them learn. Another thing I do is if a disabled student got information wrong in the lesson plan, I will go ahead and write them a note of what is the actual page the correct answer is, in which they can reference and find out what is correct and they can reflect on their own how they got it wrong.
Technology I find to be very useful for disabled students. Internet or devices will help them learn. I would also volunteer my time to have them email me or communicate me in whichever technology they prefer that we have in common.
I don’t see anything wrong with revising lesson plans for the disabled, I agree that it needs to be revised, and I find it very helpful for them as a student to learn, and as a teacher it helps us see the progress of the student as well. I wouldn’t set a strict criterion in revision, cooperation is what I would prefer to utilize with the disabled student.
