Backstory with Bela Richards

I was just commenting to Lena's post and was saying that Nick's maternal grandmother is quite the militant pureblood, so it's likely he was dragged to a few of the gatherings the Richards attend. I doubt Nick would know Bella really, other than by reputation, but one thing she might know about him - given that she knows of her father's DE connections - is that his own father "harboured and aided" DEs, possibly Mr Richards?

It's totally up to you if Bella knows about this, of course, I just thought it would be cool to have the fathers connected some how. Nick suspects his father was into something heavy but doesn't really know what. He knows his father's side of the family dealt in the trading of magical objects but doesn't know what connections that trade forged.

The reason Nick's father ultimately left is that the DEs think he sold some of them out to the Ministry and the Ministry want him in connection with DE activity. Nick doesn't know any of this but I'm sure Bella's father would.

So, yup. Tangled webs! I am of course going to clear this with the mods, just in case ;)

Oooh, I'm sure that Bela knows about this because she probably heard it from her father who apparently tells her all the juicy DE gossip about her friends/classmates' families - do you think that Nick knows Bela is marked?

Eee, sorry, I was all over the place this weekend and didn't get a chance to IM you. I doubt Nick knows about Bela because his father left years ago - we're talking like 1998 - and Nick has only just started really thinking about the reasons that could have been behind it all.

Oh, and Nick's owl-ing Bela about meeting in the library ;)

It's cool. I saw the owl just now ;) I'm responding to Nick's library thread & I figure Bela can drag him out of there at some point where they can chat. When she does we'll just stage left the thread and can e-mail each other the new loc or whatever if we can't get online at the same time!

OH, and about Nick's father harboring Thomas Richards, Lena and I thought it might be interesting if Nick's father is the girls' godfather since that seems to be a relatively big deal in wizarding families. Lena likes your idea though as well :)
