Writer's Block: Miss Manners

Mar 06, 2009 08:32

I think that out of the recently developed technologies, cell phones have had the worst influence on how people behave in public. I will not deny that cell phones are useful - I have one myself, and it has served me well on countless occasions. However, some people just abuse the privilege.

I'm sure they don't mean to look like complete imbeciles deeply annoy other people when they're practically screaming into their phone at 6:30 PM on the quiet train. I'm also sure that the kid who accidentally threw a baseball bat at a window didn't mean to break it.

And what can ever surpass the annoying vibration of a cell phone during class? Yes, it doesn't ring. We can still hear it.

As for texting... the click-click-click noise is just as annoying as I imagine the clickclickclickclickclickclick noise of my keyboard to be. Mine is just more rapid, and occurs in places where it's supposed to occur - libraries, home, and the like. Besides, why do people NEED to be in constant contact with other people?
