Okay so I totally quit my job. I gave my notice last Friday and it was scary and not something I ever look forward to (the face of disappointment is never pretty). Needless to say, my boss was totally shocked. The CEO actually pointed out during a group lunch that while a few people have been banished from their graces in the past, I'm the FIRST to ever quit their company. (At a birthday lunch. My boss's birthday lunch, in fact. *Innappropriate-ness*)
So yeah, it happened. So what's happened since? Last week, Disney Mobile called me in for a two day assignment. It felt great to head back in to Glendale to go work for my old Dream Job again. Last time Disney and I collided, I was working on the Imagineering side, which is all theme parks and restaurants and development and excited-ness. This time, it was definitely cool working for the mobile division! It's really different from the Imagineering division but still has a lot of the same great creative energy the Imagineers were throwing around. I got to sit in a brain storming meeting and it was just nice to be surrounded by artistic and technical geniuses again. Plus the subject matter was video games so... WIN! But as is usual with Disney, what starts out as a two day project has evolved to a burning-the-midnight-oil extravaganza for this week. So now I'm juggling both my Hated Day Job (I promised them a 3-week's notice) and the Disney Mobile gig at night which = no sleep. But it's worth it. This way my HDJ doesn't get it's collective feelings hurt (my boss has gone from being shocked, to supportive, to panicked, to begging me to stay... all in 1 week) AND I get to do work that feels great for the soul.
Oh yeah, and then yesterday, I went and met up with some Imagineers who want to work with me on a new project. I'm apparently gonna be developing some fun stuff for the Cars ride at Disney Land California Adventure! Oh and my material is gonna be presented to Pixar's John
Lasetter himself! ( I'm kinda half thrilled and other half freaked out at the prospect of this.) Apparently, the team that picked me to be their concept designer remembered me from my
big pitch from a year back. I'm super flattered (and thankful) that they remembered me and one of the Imagineers even reminisced about how my presentation stood out from the rest. *happiness and awe*
So hopefully quitting my day job wasn't a bad idea after all. Okay, one more week to go...
