Tbh I didn't think someone would reply to this post, so thank you~
Be ready for a super long reply!
- I realized that you're right, not all fans who're online 24/7 are jobless/younger than me. It's possible that they they just love their franchise so much that they're able to do the fangirling on top of their studies or work. I would do the same if I could (or if my co-workers didn't lurk at my screen lol.). How nice that would be, to just browse new stuff, fanarts, fanvids and fanfics all day XD
- Intense shipping is good! I like intense people. I could be one of them lol^^;; I just hate it when intensity is expressed the wrong way, like when they start classifying themselves as the only ones deserving to be a fan of this or that.
A good sample would be the recently-animated otome games (Hakuoki, Uta no Prince-sama, Arcana Famiglia and the upcoming Amnesia). I follow some hardcore Japanese-reading otome gamers in Twitter and Tumblr, and I get along with them just fine, but then they start going "oh my god, they're going to ruin the game, and the new fans are gonna make BL pairings and ruin everything." When people come to their otome blogs curious of the original game, they would most likely "oh god, they don't know anything."
That kind of elitism, the need to feel superior puts me off, really. I wanna give them all the crowns and the medals just so they can stop badmouthing newbies like me.
But I can't stop following them, they've been nice to me so far, and they really are quite smart, so I can't blame them 100%
And about work! I'm not sure what horrible things you've gone through in your internships, but I guess office politics is more um, blatant in Western countries? I read in your post that you'll be studying in London?^^;; So in a way my experiences would probs be relatively milder. But optimism never fails me! Let's just say I've developed this "at the end of the day, I got to do what I love and get paid for it" attitude. I hope it gets better for you when you graduate :)
Maybe the wank we're talking about, I'm just too affected by it because it involves things I really love personally, such as Yamapi, Kurobas, Dialov, etc (I tend to obsess about several things at the same time lol).
It's good for you, that you're able to stay out of it! I've been avoiding it too, but it catches up somehow.
About the rains and flood-- I live in the southern side of the metro, and we weren't greatly affected, fortunately. Much of the havoc was in the northern part, where the flood triggered a landslide and caused dams to overflow. The floods that have been happening recently is more of an infrastructure problem, so I really hope the government does something about it. Thanks for the concern :)
