...And the Home of the BRAVE

The Star Spangled Banner with Spanish lyrics? What the crap is this country coming to? I'm sorry that the majority of the Mexican people have enough low self-esteem to pretty much claim that their entire country is too ignorant to adapt to a different civilization, but how is that our problem? News break: I passed the civics/citizenship exam when I was 12 years old, and I'm not really all that bright anyway... and citizenship is free. All in all, I really do not understand what is so difficult about this situation and really don't understand why Americans can be OK with the idea of conforming to them. I remember a teacher in middle school talking to us about how her grandparents moved to the United States from Italy. She said that they all were so excited to learn the English language and to see what it would be like to adapt to western civilization because it was their sign of freedom.
A story that I love to look back on is one from when I was at Alabama Girls State. We were going through elections for bigger parties which took the whole week, essentially. We also had whistle stops (asking questions that would somehow apply to their office) and I don't even remember what office was asked this, but the question was something like, "How do you intend to attempt resolving the immigration issue in the state?" There were seven girls who ran for this office. Six of them went on for their entire time warranted (I think 2 minutes?) and ranted about how Americans are so intolerant of poor people, how we should be there for them and learn their language/way of life, and basically talked about the citizenship improvement rather than what the government could do to further resolve this issue. Then there was the other girl. She said 1 maybe 2 sentences as her answer. Her answer was something like, "I would simply see what was so difficult about the citizenship process and see what I could do, if anything, to change it, or simply see that those who were willing, would be legalized, and then remove the ones who wouldn't comply with what our laws demand." Guess who won? That's right, definitely girl #7.
No other country in the world does this. What makes the United States the bad guys when we get illegals out? I know the entire world speaks English... I'm not ignorant... but I also know that anything in the world that is something right now, is run by Americans.. Money, medicine, military, technology.. We're kind of the world monopoly right now and if important foreign figures don't know English, it's actually a detriment to them... And it's also because of our country's hard work, not because we mooch off of those who are higher up on the totem pole of life than we are.
I don't get it. I never will. I don't see how Americans comply with this either... I wish we had the same pride for our country that we did during the WWII era. This really is a shame.
