So, I had a date on Valentine's Day...with a dead shark! My partner and I had one shark and I mostly dissected and peeled the skin for 3 hours cuz she doesn't have much experience except 9th grade bio class. *-* Although the smell was unpleasant, I guess I enjoyed it. ^_^" It was also Trudie's birthday so I went out to dinner with a few friends and watched a horror movie. They swore that it wasn't really a horror movie because it was ridiculously bad and made in the late 80s/early 90s. After trying to run away for a while, I decided I'd watch. It was funny till the last quarter of the movie when of course, it got gory and I looked at the wall behind the TV for most of that time. Haha. We made fun of every possible scene. It was hilarious. It's called "Christina's House."
The next day was the beginning of a wonderful, long weekend of Circle K's District Convention (DCON). It's an annual convention for about 27 clubs in VA, MD, DC, and DE. 24 schools were represented this year. It was at Hyatt Fair Lakes in Fairfax, VA this year which is super close for us. 12 of us from GWUCK (GWU Circle K) were able to go this year. Friday night was the opening session and entertainment. We had a magician who was...ok, I guess. And for some reason, we didn't socialize with the other clubs afterwards. We went back to our rooms to chat and play games.
Saturday was a long day of workshops, conferences and meetings. Lunch and dinner were amazing. Such good food! And William & Mary's CKI just swept many of the awards. Last year it was us! >.< But we had a dance that night. I was supposed to be in charge of the music. I had more than 6 hours worth of music (mostly popular hip-hop songs but a few random fun party songs from the 90s). BUT the dj wouldn't play my list. Instead, he played his own set of songs that are outdated. He mostly played songs from the early 90s which would be great for a much older crowd but many people there were upset. Due to my constant bugging, they played a few songs from my list. I was SOOOOOOOOO PISSED! I don't want to be mean but he is someone who doesn't know what's hot. The only reason he became the dj was because he is good with technology. But I just don't understand why he couldn't just play my list! And even when he played my songs, they weren't loud enough. So many people complained. Even the governor and the conference committee chair talked to him but for some reason, he didn't listen to anyone. And he's a member of CKI which is absurd!!! But whatev! I was really excited about the dance and I ended up getting disappointed. I have to say though... At the beginning, my "Larger Than Life" got the whole crowd pumped and dancing and singing along!! Made me super happy! ^_____^
But GWUCK went back to our rooms and played Mad Libs till wee hours in the morning. I had never played it before and it was so much fun! And of course, we had a long meeting about candidates for next year's District Board of Officers cuz elections were at 8 the next morning. We ended up going to bed after 4 only to get up at 7 again. I am pleased with the elections I guess. It turned out better than expected.
Oh DCON...It is absolutely so much fun! Yet, you never sleep during the weekend. I guess that is why it's such a great weekend. You sacrifice sleep for club bonding. And members get so much closer than before. After it's over, you have withdrawal symptoms and all you can think about is DCON. All you can do is upload pix from the weekend, look at pix from other people, comment on pix and write to other people the whole day long. After we got back, everyone slept for about an average of 12-13 hours! And people ask us, "Why are you so tired?" Haha...you'll know only if you experience DCON...
