Thinking back to the 2000/2004 elections, I wonder about what would have happened if we had elected Kerry or the other Democrate running during 2000. The events that have happened over the past six years would still have taken place. But I wonder about what would have been handled differently

We'd also see shifts in some domestic policy, esp on the tax/environmentalist ends. Though the biggest differences we'd see are the ones about to come up: Bush gets to appoint two lifetime supreme court justices, something that's going to have effects for the next 20-30 years. If nothing else, the people chosen for this court will be the ones who get to decide issues about whether Andy can get married or not.
So yeah... people may disagree on the issues, and sure, most politicans aren't that good. But there are actual policy differences between people you can vote on. Given that they deal with issues of life and death, our (rather shitty) choices matter.
To quote a recent episode of South Park: "I've learned that sometimes you have to choose between a Turdburger and a Stupid Douche."

And let's say Kerry was elected. We would probably still be in Iraq right now, with the people saying, well if we had elected Bush again, we wouldn't be there anymore.
But as the saying goes, Hindsight is always 20/20 and even with what we have seen so far on the Republican side of leadership, the people will still vote a Republican into office for the next election.
