Sometimes it's hard - to know what you want, what you are, what you will become. Sometimes you cry - knowing that your efforts are in vain, feeling frustration, knowing what was done can not be undone.
But sometimes, you feel satisfied.
And when Wufei wakes up in the morning, it's with the knowledge that everything's alright after all. Because, beside him, lies his anchor, his mentor, his pupil, his everything.
Heero, the one who defied fate, who fought for his beliefs; the one who helped show Wufei that hope exists, that fate can be changed.
And when Wufei takes his first breath of the morning, sunlight washes into him, and he closes his eyes, wanting to feel this peace forever.
Because he was once lost, he knows the pain of the ignorant. And because he was once angry, he knows the pain of the helpless.
And, because he is now free of those things, he knows the pain of growing up. But it was alright. Because his way was led by this light guiding him, showing him his future. And so he knows that he lives, that his choices are his to make.
And he has made his choice of how he wants to live. He wants to be able to measure himself, improve himself. He wants to know that there is always something better out there, so that he can keep on strengthening himself. He wants the strength to protect his ideals and his beliefs, and now he knows he can.
Heero Yuy was a tool and a warrior; a spirit and a belief. People believed in him, his strength, his goodness. And he was made into a legend, a myth of heroism that is repeated on rainy nights.
But Wufei knows. He knows that Heero is not and can never be what people make of him. Because he is human. His feelings are his alone, not to be controlled by others' expectations of him. And Wufei feels thrilled, exhilarated, that this being finds in him something that he can not see in himself. And that he is respected because of it, and loved.
Wufei knows what he needs, what he wants. He wants an anchor, a foundation stone from which he could draw his strength. He wants an ideal to which he could compare himself. He needs someone who is even stronger than he is, who could help him define himself.
And he knows what Heero wants. Heero wants comfort, someone on which he could fall back. He wants to be shown the human feelings that he himself is unable to show. He needs a person who could understand him for what he is, who is as strong as he is, who can help him find himself.
And Wufei knows that they depend on each other, that they are each other's balance. He knows that they reflect each other, fitting together like two sides of the same coin. And he knows that he will never let go.
