An epic post of epicness.
Alright, so Thursday night I got a call from work, and they asked me to open on Friday. Which I needed the cash, so I agreed even though I knew I needed my sleep. So anyway, I work 5:30-11:30, and I miraculously survived, although I did cut myself on the bagel knife...! Whoops. It was pouring buckets all day long so we thought it would be slow, but I guess the rain drove everyone indoors, cause it was insanely busy. But at least I made good tips! So after work, I decided to go get my eyebrows waxed, because I hadn't done it in a while and I was beginning to look like a gorilla. It went well, and I was really impressed...until I got home. I go to brush my hair cause it was still in a pony from work, when I find out...THERE IS WAX IN IT. I don't know how she managed to do it, but somehow the lady dropped a big glob of wax, right by my hairline so I couldn't even have cut it out. So I stand with my head under the sink for a while, trying to melt it out, but no such luck. I eventually had to take a shower to get water that was hot enough.
Once that's all settled, I go to finish up packing for the trip, but before I can, I get a few calls - yay, taxi time! I had to get my brother from school, then pick my dad up at the airport, then we had to get new windshield wipers cause the old ones were stupid and they left a smear RIGHT where the driver has to see. After that, we race home, I finish packing, and Mia and Katie arrive. After some dithering around (mostly me trying to get them to pack some road snacks, because it's a good 4 hour drive, but they wouldn't. I finally throw some drinks in a cooler and call it a day.), we load up and drive off.
Did I mention it was pouring buckets all day? Yeah. Driving up was a bitch. It took us around 4 hours, and I drove the entire way. We never stopped once, not even for bathroom or anything. And yeah. Lots of rain. It was really fucking scary. =|
Ok, this is taking far too long to write, so: after driving up, we check in, eat some japanese for dinner, then go to bed. Saturday we end up waking up too late for the hotel breakfast, so we go to this waffle house, which was really shitty. We decide to kill time by going to a movie - 10,000 BC. It was ok, but nothing ~*super awesome. The mall we went to was really weird. Like almost all the stores had "ebony" or "african" in the name. There were a lot of wig stores and suit stores and 'bling bling' stores. Not to be racist or anything...it was just...I guess you had to be there.
We go back to the hotel and watch some episodes of Made on MTV, for some lulz. Finally it's time to go to the show!
We get there a little before 5 cause that's when doors were supposed to open, but the guy kicks us out and says they changed it to 5:30. So we go across the street to a Hardees to get some snacks and kill time. All we ordered was 2 milkshakes and a burger, and it took them like 5 years to make it =|
We finally get inside the venue, and dash to the room where the actual show is. There's like 10 people inside, so we go back out to the merch tables/front room. I'm just buying a
THS shirt when I turn around and see...SPENCER! A bff from the hush sound forum, for those who don't go there. So we spaz and say hey and everything, he buys some of his own stuff, and then we go back in the venue. We hang out for like half an hour, as it appears that the first band is having issues setting up. Even the lights are broken! =| Finally, they start.
Early Departure: First band, local. They have trouble with their equipment the entire time, mainly that you can't hear any vocals at all. The lead vocalist's mic kept getting unplugged, and the instruments overpowered it, anyway. I hate to judge because of that, but to me, they just sounded like a Generic Myspace Band. Not bad, but nothing particularly amazing about them.
After the set, Katie and Mia leave to go get water, but come back in time for CS.
Charlotte Sometimes: OH. MY. GOD. The new love of my life. They had equipment issues, too, but they were still FANTASTIC. I love this band so, so much now. I wanted to buy the CD, but it isn't out in stores yet. They're playing here next month, at which they'll be selling the CD, so I'm going to try and head on down to that.
Katie and Mia leave. Again.
Paper Rival: They were ok. Again, I didn't not like them, but I wouldn't buy any music. The singer vaguely reminded me of the guy from Jack's Mannequin, but that's probably just me.
They leave. Again. They don't seem to be too into the show, too busy 'making funny faces' at each other and reading text messages. I try to include them, but at this point, I've stopped caring, and hang out with Spencer. At this point, I believe, Spencer happens to overhear some guys behind us talking about Raleigh, and we turn around and talk - lo and behold, they've been to a lot of the same concerts we have! They merge with us, and we become one happy group of THS lovin'. One, Adrian, also happens to be a stdotnet member, and is a freshman at State, as well. What are the odds?
Secret Handshake:. This band is just two guys - a keyboardist/vocalist, and a drummer. And also a Macbook. They sound like they're trying to be like HelloGoodbye. I did enjoy this set, though - the singer did a great job of getting the crowd to be enthusiastic, getting us to dance and stuff. Even if the music was ho-hum in my opinion, I still had a lot of fun! They're still having equipment problems - at one point, the power goes out on stage! They fix it, though, and finish up.
Mia and Katie leave again. By this point, everyone squished to the front because THS was coming out. Me, Spence, and the gang had managed to get RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE STAGE. To the point that we could reach out and
touch Greta's piano! Mia and Katie get stuck in the back. But whatever. At that point, I was annoyed with them and didn't care. After a long agonizing wait, they finally come out!
The Hush Sound: FUCKING. AMAZING. oh my god. Like I said, we were right at the stage. They come out, and Bob is wearing a cape, which is hilarious. Setlist can be found
here. (thanks, spencer!)
some fun points:
-It turns out that some girls brought the robe/cape for bob...apparently they bought it at goodwill and thought 'hey, why not?'
-For those of you who don't know the music well, during one song, Echo, the song goes quiet for a moment, then launches into the second half. During the pause, THS newbs started cheering, and everyone was like STFU and Greta was all 'shhhhhh' before they finshed.
-During Sweet Tangerine, people kept shouting 'DOT NET' which was really cute.
-The Goodbye Blues songs were AMAZING.
-The Heat Wave cover was super cute; Greta would put her hand to her head whenever she said 'heat wave' - she told everyone else to, too, but nobody really did. The got a guy from Charlotte Sometimes to play the piano, and Greta waltzed about.
I'm sure there's more, but right now I can't think of anything. My pictures came out really shitty, but I'll be happy to share if anyone wants them.
After the show, we went back out front for the meet and greet. I got a
Charlotte Sometimes shirt. Then I turn around, and Bob is there! We talk to him for a few minutes, and Spencer give him the
sunglesses. he made for him. Bob replies by saying that he'll wear them when he's driving. rofl. While waiting for my turn, I get the guys from Charlotte Sometimes to sign my poster, but since I was having Spencer take my pictures (I forgot my real camera), I didn't get a picture with them. Anyway, my turn to have a picture with Bob comes around, and
Here it is!. You can see the CS guys lurking behind us.
After that, we race over to Greta. We talk for a little while. She's an absolute sweetheart! Spencer gave her the
sunglasses, and we agreed that they're not practical for use, but they're really sweet for taking photos! Haha. We mentioned that Boys are Too Refined sounds fantastic, and one of the songs we're most excited for off of Goodbye Blues. She said they didn't play it because she got the impression that nobody really liked it, when they used to play it live. Which made me really sad. =( Here's my
picture with her. I think it turned out really good! =)
Last but not least, we visited Darren and Chris, who were standing together. We gave Darren a hotel bible because he said once that he likes to collect them, from all the places he stays at and stuff. Unfortunately, when we gave him ours, he said that he pretty much stopped doing that because he's gotten all the colours, and gotten them from so many different countries...he was still really nice about it, though, and asked us to sign it. We gave Chris a book, too. My picture with them looks awful because I wasn't ready when they took it, but whatever. It can be found
here.
I kept checking on Katie and Mia to see if they were ok, but they were huddled in the corner cause they didn't really care.
So we went back and talked to Greta. We asked her about Medicine Man, and she just claimed that she wasn't on the computer much, and had no idea. But then she (jokingly?) tried to run away. It was hilarious. She's sneaky!
we chatted for a little while more, and that's about it. Sadly, around 11, the church people (did I mention this was in a church?) started flickering the lights, so we had to go home. I had been using my dad's GPS thingy to navigate, but after a few minutes, we realize we're going in the wrong direction. I pull over, and find out that I picked the wrong address - the street names for both the hotel and the movie theatre we were at earlier started with North, and I apparently hit the wrong button. Even though we had only been driving for maybe 5, 10 minutes, the fastest route back to the hotel was apparently another 45 mins...?
It was really scary, cause during that route, this person starts riding my tail, and flickering the lights. We're freaking out, and I eventually pull off - and it was just this lady telling me I forgot to turn on my lights. Whoops! My car does it automatically, so I'm not used to it.
Got up Sunday, and Mia drove home. Pretty uneventful.
Yeah. I think that's about it. I may edit if I think of anything else, but this post is getting ridiculously long. I thank anyone who managed to make it this far! ♥
