I totally agree with you. I'm hoping there won't be a series 4 because I honestly can't see where they could go from here. As much as I like Jack and I think he ultimately did the only thing he could do, sacrificing Stephen kind of changes him for me.
There were several things that changed my opinion of Jack in this series and would make it hard for me to enjoy watching him in any future eps. At the Dr. Who panel at comicon, RTD said they had no definitive word on a series 4 but would be excited to do one if there was. I'm almost scared to think of what misery he has in mind if he does get another series.
I wholeheartedly agree with you. I heard they announced there will be a Series 4 due to good ratings, but somehow I doubt those ratings will be repeated. *I* sure won't be watching it, that's for sure.
And I also heard that, when people complained about the deaths at Comicon, Davies basically told them to shut up and grow up. Sorry, buddy, I've already had one set of producers telling me to shut up this year--I don't need this much crap because of a TV show. I just thank God that, while I LIKED Torchwood and Ianto, I'm still enough in SGA-mode that I didn't really get fannish over it. If I had, I would have been devastated.
I didn't see the Torchwood panel at Comicon but I did see the Dr. Who panel and even then RTD made it very clear that if there was a Series 4, it wouldn't be what lots of people were hoping for because, "dead is dead." So while he didn't tell people to grow up in *that* panel, it was obvious he didn't care what the fans thought in the end.
And he said there was no official word on a series 4 but that the ratings were triple for Children of Earth over what they had been in series 2, so I have trouble imagining BBC won't offer up another series. The thing is, I enjoyed the first 3 eps and most of the 4th. And event hough I watched the 5th ep, I kind of wish I hadn't, and I have to wonder how many people feel that way, too. So even though the ratings may have been through the roof, they probably aren't reflective of the number of people who would watch a series 4 because I think he lost a lot of faithful viewers in the end.
the "producers telling me to shut up" comment; was that about SGA? I'm asking because I was wondering if there is a good place to go where people are talking about the cancellation of SGA for the sole purpose of replacing it with another show -- I'd like to know what people are saying about that and a good place to go to read what they are saying

It absolutely was. We've been talking about it for months in many of my friends' journals. However, the topic has come up again due to some reviewers' posts of SGU. Here are a couple of them:
As you can see, everyone is still pretty pissed, but we've realized there's nothing much to be done about it now, so unfortunately we'll just live with it. AND enjoy the fic without having to worry about being screwed up by some of the stupidities which would probably come in canon. Knowing this group of writers and producers, they might kill off Sheppard just because they're pissed at Joe. After all, they did it with Daniel, for almost exactly the same reason.
My thoughts were, "Wow, someone really hates kids," and "Seriously, someone striking pen to paper really, really hates kids," and "Why do the writers want me to hate Jack

See, the thing for me with BSG, and I did enjoye BSG, was that I knew it was dark and bleak and no joy. I knew that going in and in a lot of ways it was like rubbernecking at a car wreck. (And the great thing they did was make you root for the cylons and then ended up with those cylons you were rooting for actually being the "good guys". Although for me, the best thing about the show was that there was really no such thing as good or bad, it all came down to perspective.) With Torchwood, I wasn't expecting that total bleakness. I mean it had been dark in the past but not nearly as dark as Day 5 was of the miniseries. But I really never liked to rewatch eps of Torchwood because in general they were kind of gloomy
