i was going to be a vegetarian just to try it out. then i decided not to. it would take too much of an effort, i live at home and my mother cooks meat. so i eat it

yeah, most people can be pretty unhealthy at times, vegetarian or not. moderation always seems to be a good answer, right?
anyway, by human concerns i guess i meant talking care of human health and well being. like the idea that more people in the world could be fed if the land used to pasture animals was used to grow food and if that food was then given to people instead of animals. also, in the usa the methane waste produced by the huge amount of livestock is actully greater than the methane created by landfills. i think vegetarianism is a healthy diet, and if humans everywhere are healthier then there would be a lot less problems.
so...better allocation of environmental resources (to reduce global hungar), cleaner world, and improved health of people everywhere.
also, and maybe this is really idealistic of me, but if we learn to treat animals and the earth better than would we also start to treat fellow humans better? and become more peaceful or less crazy, as you said? i don't know and i know there are lots of other, more imediate things to do to promote peace...but it's interesting to think about.
