He was starting to get a bit too used to having Ryan around. He wasn’t sure if that was a good or bad thing, but he had never had a problem remaining not attached before. Not that Ryan was a problem. In fact, she was more like an interesting addition to his sordid life of crime and schmoozing. She actually fit in rather well, and it was nice, for once, to have someone that knew what he was doing and actually helped. A partner in crime, so to speak. And he hadn’t had a partner in crime in a long time.
That wasn’t why they were sharing the bed, though, and it wasn’t for the other reason, either. Things were strictly platonic, more like two siblings who shared a bed on family vacations. It was a familiar comfort, having a bundle of warmth curled up next to him, as opposed to a cold, empty hotel bed. There wasn’t much better than company, as far as both his human and cat instincts were concerned, and having the better was certainly better than being alone.
So with Ryan pressed against his back as he lay on his side, he closed his eyes and waited for sleep to come, relaxed, comfortable, and feeling just a little bit safer than usual. And that was better than nothing at all.
