[Having arrived, explored the city a bit, and decided that no, it is nothing like his home, Near is now working on figuring out the way the second level works. His current opinion places it as akin to a computer system that he can access with his mind - a strange concept, but not entirely out of the question, either. He can currently be found ( Read more... )

[Matt's been looking for a way to talk to Near privately since he saw him in the church.]

Far as I can tell, it's impossible. No airport, no buses out, no info on anything like that.

But. How are you even here, man? What year is it for you?

... [Okay, he'll play along] 2011. As far as my arrival ... Well, I have yet to understand that, myself.

2011? It's 2010 for me. And- I'm sorry, but I'm pretty damn sure you're dead.

To the best of my knowledge, I've never died - but at last count, the same was true for you.

[Ping! Have a pink prophet on your Second Level, Near.]

Ah, there seems to be some sort of barrier around the city that keeps people from leaving it. I've tried to break it, but it seems my Taoist Arts cannot even begin to crack it, let alone dissolve the entire barrier. Très étrange.

[Why hello there, my pink, prophet-y friend!]

Very strange, indeed. An invisible barrier ... Hm.

Perhaps it would be more accurate to say it is impossible to leave voluntarily.

I see - so I assume that some leave involuntarily. Is it spontaneous?

So far as I can tell leaving is spontaneous. Arriving, however, is often linked to events in peoples own worlds.

People who have been here before have a tendency to come back too. More often than not from a point further on in their timeline, and without their memories of previously being in Template intact.

Interesting ... Without any memories ... [Pause while he puts this all together]

Can you tell me anything about parallel worlds?
