Room 322 [Wednesday afternoon]

Sep 03, 2014 09:45

With the start of the new semester (was that the right word? Rapunzel still wasn't entirely sure) came the realization that she'd been here for a whole summer. And that was kind of crazy, right? Like, Rapunzel had been here, on this island, where she'd come by mistake, for four months ( Read more... )

Edward had - stubbornly, he was willing to admit that now - avoided doing this largely out of pride. But after two weeks in his technology class and the discovery that he really wasn't going to get by in it without getting his letters-- he had at last sucked it up.

So now here he was, knocking on Rapunzel's door-- feeling a bit odd about that. He didn't have the stick up his arse that Ichabod did about so many things, but this still ranked somewhere on the list of 'liberties' in the back of his head.

Ah, no one's parents were here, Kenway. Let it go.

Rapunzel glanced back towards the door with a bright grin. "Hi Edward! How are you today? Are you having a good semester so far?"

Was someone a little eager for company? Always.

"It's been all right," Edward said, grinning immediately because it was hard not to turn the charm back on at that--

--and then the charm promptly turned off again as an enormous load of water crashed down from the sky and deposited itself neatly on Edward's poor blond head.

And that was Rapunzel actually eeping and flailing her way over to him in alarm. "Oh, darn it! Do you want a towel or something? Are you hurt?"

It was just water, Rapunzel, calm down.

"Jaysus, that's cold!" Edward said, stumbling into the room, looking a bit like a drowned cat.

Not helping, Ed.

Rapunzel scampered into her bathroom and emerged with a (very fluffy, very purple) towel for him, wincing. "Sorry," she said, offering the towel sheepishly. "I keep seeing that happen to people but so far I've been lucky."

Aaaand now she was just going to look upwards, worriedly, because she knew how jinxing worked.

Edward took the towel very quickly and gave his head a good scrub. Jesus. What the hell was that? "This is a common thing?" he said. "We're indoors!"

Oh, stop being such a drama queen.

"It's been happening since Monday," Rapunzel offered with a little shrug. "It's been all over the radio. I have no idea why, but it's definitely not my favorite random thing. I mean, it's better than the leeches or whatever falling from the sky, but only kinda."

"We're lucky it's not winter yet," Edward complained, sitting down on her bed and not caring about it either way because he wasn't paying attention.

Well, wet bedding wasn't going to kill anyone, anyway. "Right, or we'd probably have a horrible flu problem, too," Rapunzel agreed sympathetically. "...you can get the flu being cold, right? Or is that pneumonia?"

Guess who'd never actually been sick longer than a couple hours?

"You can get a cold getting a cold, that's what I know," Edward said. He took the towel to the rest of him and tried to ignore the urge to shiver. "What is wrong with this island."

"Lots of stuff," Rapunzel said cheerfully, "but I think the good outweighs the bad, right? I mean, it's great here, and if I have to put up with ice water or turning into an animal or whatever in order to live here...well, it's beats the alternative."

Not that either of those things had happened to her, but still! Point stood!

"At least I am learning something, but some days it don't feel worth it," Edward muttered, though now he was just being petulant because he was wet.

But... that brought him back to the original reason for his arrival. "Ah-- speaking of which..."

"Ooh, did you have a reason for visiting other than getting doused by water in my doorway?" Rapunzel teased, tilting her head at him.

"One or two, yes," Edward said. He even managed an attempt at a smirk. "You offered to teach me, once. Letters."

The only reason Rapunzel didn't actually clap with delight at what he was suggesting was that this was probably a little sensitive for him, and that took precedence over her glee.

"Did you still want help with that?" she asked, smiling gently. "'Cause yeah, offer stands."
