Even a good four hours later, Kenzie was still indulging in the feeling of being warm and dry as opposed to cold and drenched. It had been one intense morning, with a turn of events she could never have seen coming. Now things had settled and she was lying in a comfortable, cosy bed... with Braden. She turned her head and once again found herself watching him sleep beside her for probably around the fiftieth time since they crawled into the bed. He was on his side, curled up against her with his arm tucked around her waist and his head resting against her upper arm. The only part of him visible from under the covers was his face and head, but she was relieved that he had finally stopped shivering and his hair had dried, even if it was now a cute blonde mess and sticking up all over the place from sleeping on it wet.
She put her hand up and started to softly stroke the backs of her fingers across his cheek. After getting swept up in the emotional explosion earlier, and indeed over the past few weeks, Kenzie was glad to have this time of quiet and comfort. After they got in out of the rain, Braden was just still inconsolable. He had settled down a little, but he was still clearly upset. Getting soaked in the rain probably just didn't help his mood at all, so with the help of Callum and Angus, and a lot of towels, Kenzie helped him get dried off before moving onto herself. It was then that Callum suggested Braden should maybe have a wee lie down in the guest room, and Braden had subsequently asked Kenzie to stay, telling her she could maybe borrow some dry clothes off him. She did, of course. There was no way she couldn't, even if his trackpants and t-shirt swam on her. They were comfortable and they smelt like his cologne. He admitted to her that he felt like crap and needed to lie down. As soon as he got changed himself, they crawled into bed together and cuddled up. He was out like a light just a few minutes later, and had been asleep ever since.
Kenzie hadn't slept. She had a lot to think about and it gave her the time to. Initially, she had given into the urge to cry as she lay there with her arms around his sleeping form, feeling like she was trying to shield him from the big bad world out there. Seeing him so upset had broken her heart, it wasn't something she was used to, and she felt helpless and powerless to stop it for him. But she knew he probably had to just let it all out before he could finally start to accept it and cope with it. And he wanted her there with her while he did. With a small sigh, Kenzie carefully rolled onto her side and one again wrapped her arm around him, pressing a lingering kiss to his forehead. Whatever would come for them next, it couldn't be any worse than they'd already been through.
