Once he had made sure his twin was safely confined in the Sixth Squad's holding cells where he couldn't cause any more trouble, Renji headed back to his quarters to clean up. His uniform was looking a little worse for wear after the fight with the doppelganger, but aside from a collection of minor cuts and bruises, he'd emerged from the battle relatively unscathed. Nothing worth bothering the Fourth about, at least. He'd had worse.
No small dog ran up to greet him when he entered his quarters. There was just an empty room with an unmade futon, exactly the way he'd left it this morning. He didn't know where the puppy was. Maybe with Chibiusa. Or Kamina. (He hoped the silly mutt was with Chibiusa or Kamina, and not chasing Kuchiki-taichou's rabbits again.) Either way, it wasn't here. Which kind of sucked, because he could have used the company right now.
After changing into a fresh uniform, leaving the old one on the floor to deal with later, Renji collapsed onto the futon with a groan, draping one arm over his eyes. He felt like he could sleep for a week, and he wasn't looking forward to the mountains of paperwork that would probably result from this latest virus. If he was really lucky, Renji thought sourly, he'd even end up with a formal reprimand for releasing his Bankai in Seireitei without permission. The Captain Commander and the rest of the higher ups could be pretty touchy about things like that.
To make his day even worse, during the confusion of taking his twin into custody after the battle, he'd lost track of Rukia. He knew he needed to go find her and make sure she knew that none of the things that bastard had said were true - the sooner, the better - but now that he was lying down, he didn't think he had the energy to get up again. It had nothing to do with him being nervous about facing her. Why the hell would he be nervous? That was stupid.
