Day 16: Character You Relate To The Most

Hello again! I took a week off, but now I'm back for the second half of the meme. This may be the hardest one so far, for me, because I love so many of the characters and that's due partly to feeling a kinship. The one that I relate to the most may depend on what scene I'm watching, really.

I relate to CJ's fear of a serious relationship that demands honesty and consideration of others. I relate to Toby's concern that he may not be able to connect with his children.

I relate to the awkwardness of basically all the female characters, from CJ's falls and Donna's accidental underwear to Ainsley's nervous speech patterns and Annabeth's fish-out-of-water bravery.

I relate to Josh's tendency to seek out relationships that involve the other person doing all the work. I relate to Leo's embarrassment at being loved and appreciated by people and not understanding why. I even relate to the way the President believes that he is extraordinary while fearing that he will prove to be inadequate.

Over the entire series, I probably relate to Donna the most, because I understand loving someone so much that you'd rather be near them than go after what you need, especially if you don't have a strong sense of self to begin with. But more specifically, the character that I probably relate to the most is Ainsley, because she is geeky and awkward and honest, even when she'd be treated better if she compromised her principles. I don't share her conservative beliefs, but I do believe very much in feeling a sense of duty, and in another life I would work for the government because I think that it mostly consists of people who mean well and want to make other people's lives better. I truly believe that government isn't meant to be a place where selfishness and corruption rule or where winning is more important than what you do with your victory.

That seems to put me in the minority these days, but I believe too much in the ideals of what this country is supposed to be to utilize my cynicism. So I say Ainsley, in answering this question. :)

But Margaret gets honorary second place because she is adorable and utterly bizarre.

And...an icon!

Thanks for reading. :)

See you tomorrow for Day 17!
