Day 8: Least Favorite Female Character

Mandy. Just, Mandy. I feel like it's almost cheating because she goes away after Season 1 and everyone pretends she never existed (me included!), but of the major cast members, it's Mandy. The actress is good, and she's occasionally funny, but the show's plan to make her Josh's love interest while she spent all her screen time mocking him and being overly rude was bizarrely misconstrued and The West Wing could not have been the excellent show that it is if they'd kept that going.

Among recurring guest stars, I don't like the conservative Republican character that gets brought in to work on Senator Vinick's campaign. She's rude to everyone, she's wrong and Bruno's right...and while she is almost entirely forgettable, lacking at least a redeeming quality of interestingness, she gets bonus awful points for being flippant and cruel about Leo's death while standing next to someone who worked with and respected him.

When it comes to one-time guest stars, I really dislike Felicity Huffman's character. Felicity Huffman is a good actress and I don't mind her in other roles, but her brief character appearance on TWW only makes things harder for the characters I do like, and she does so without being particularly charming or pleasant. It beats me why Toby likes her.

Honorable mentions for female characters I dislike: all the interns who work for Will (so annoying and surprisingly dumb!), the secretary temp that takes over for Donna (so rude for no reason), and Liz Bartlet cuz she always has the same belligerent facial expression and seems like she hates everyone for no reason. For that matter, Zoey Bartlet in season 4 is no prize--but that doesn't mean she deserved to be kidnapped, so I'm just glad she grows up after that.

This is possibly my shortest entry in a long time. I love this show too much to have a lot of vehemently disliked characters.

And...icons! :) I'm really not going to icon a character I dislike, so instead it's two variations of Josh/Amy.

Thanks for reading. :)

See you tomorrow for Day 9!
