Oh, Scott and I went snowboarding today. It was warm and fairly slushy, especially toward 3 p.m., when we left. That's good and bad news: good because I got to go straight down a few hills without braking and feel like a badass (slush is apparently slower than hardpack, and I'm too much of a wuss to just go flying down a steep slope of packed man-made snow, thanks); bad because several times, I ended up catching the edge of my snowboard in squishy snow and falling on my belly and sliding down the mountain a few times. I was wearing only a T-shirt and snow pants. I got wet. My elbows are all rashy.
Scott let me ride his new park board, and it was really different -- once I got used to its dimensions (narrow!), it turned really easily compared to Fat Bob (my decade-plus-old snowboard). And then, while he was strapping into Fat Bob, Scott noticed that when he set up my bindings last fall, he did it wrong -- he put the left binding where the right one should have gone, and vice versa. No wonder they were digging into my big toes. He fixed it at the bottom of the run, and it felt much better from then on.
By the time the day was over, I was shooting down that mountain almost like I knew what I was doing.
That was so much fun. I can't believe I hadn't been for three months.
