Rattlesnake Smile

song Rattlesnake Smile by Christian Kane
It's been a long time
Since I wore this rattlesnake smile
And a lotta my friends haven't seen it in quite a while
I feel my eyes rollin' deep inside my head
And there's a feeling of misconception in the air
Yeah, I'm startin' to see
Yeah, I do believe
It was country music country and they were only getting one station anyway. Damn tape deck was busted. Sam would have taken Deans rock over country any day. He was trying to take a nap when he tuned into the words of the song that was playing. In moments the world had changed.
I used to have a soft southern glowing face
I used to lead my heartaches away on the chase
When you get stung with the heart of a little child
Well, that's how you get that rattlesnake smile
Dean. The lines were Dean written by someone else. He knew that smile. Dean had gotten dangerous when he wasn’t looking. Was it when he went to college? He thought it had started before then. He knew it wasn’t the job. It would have happened sooner. What the hell had happened to his brother? How had he just taken the changes for granted? He should have known something big, something bad had happened. He wasn’t much of brother.
You better keep your distance
In this tangled shape I'm in
Now no one had better touch me right now
In this cold-blooded thick skin
Dean wanted to turn the dial but it was the only station. He wanted to slam in a tape but the tape deck was broken. He would have turned the whole thing off but he didn’t want to make Sam suspicious. There were some questions Sam didn’t ever need to ask. Things Sam never needed to know. He’d like to think he wasn’t keeping count but Dean knew exactly how long it had been since he slept with someone. Sam had no idea. He spent nights wandering around when Sam thought he was fucking some girl.
Oh I said you better run real fast
When you hear that rattlin' sound
Well, you better run real fast, man,
Or this one's gonna knock you down
Sam did not ever want to go anywhere near this. At least he had no idea. Dean was thankful for Sam’s preoccupation with going off to college.
I sit alone and try to shed this skin that I live in
Trying to clear my vision once again
Hah, well, I ain't no good to no one no how, not right now
'Cause I forgot to run myself and I got run down
He’d tried to put it behind him but he never had. He knew he was all kinds of fucked up. Dean just wanted to keep hunting. It was what he could handle.
Do I look like something you can put in a fuckin' cage?!
Shit! Dean knew he would scream if he didn’t watch it. Maybe even cry and Dean didn’t cry.
Come over here and gimme a kiss
Yeah, I'm startin' to see
Yeah, I do believe
Dean just kept breathing and driving.
Better keep your distance
From this tangled shape i'm in
Now no one had better touch me right now
In this cold-blooded thick skin
Sam watched Dean tense up.
Better, well, well
Now I said you better run real fast
When you hear that rattlin' sound
Oh I said you better run real fast
Or this one's gonna knock you down
And I sit alone in the desert rain
With my tail in the air
Ohhhhhhh
The song ended suddenly, leaving only Sam and Dean alone in the car with nothing between them.
Sam reached over and touched Dean’s shoulder asking. “What the hell happened?”
“Don’t fucking touch me.” Dean snarled and threw Sam's arm off.
Oh. For Sam once again the world changed in moments.
