So today was my first day at EBSCO. The day started rather poorly - George Carlin dead, dogs poisoned at High Park - and I thought the rest of the day just might go the same way. I got off to a late start because of a last-minute debate I had with my outfit (blazer - or no blazer?). The blazer finally won, but I wasn't sure if I'd be able to make it to the office in time.
I arrived at work ten minutes early. I was given a five minute spin around the office by someone I had just met, shown my desk, and then herded back into the general manager's office for an hour long web conference about a new EBSCO product. A tad overwhelming, but at least I could just sit back and learn something for that first hour. Afterwards, I chatted with my supervisor for a bit, found out that someday her ginormous office would be mine (and by someday she means as soon as she can move out of it), sat flabbergasted for several minutes that they think me deserving of a massive office, then had some really intense training on using the system. The general manager took a bunch of us out for lunch as a welcome to me... then I spent the rest of the afternoon playing with the system. It's confusing, but I'm assured that it takes about a month to start understanding it.
Thankfully it only took me an hour to get to work, rather than the hour and a half that I'd feared it would be every day. I also found out that a lot of people come into work between 7 and 8, so I'm going to aim for 8 tomorrow morning. I'd love to get home earlier and beat the rush.
So... yeah. I have a job!
