So exactly a week ago (almost to the minute), the fire alarm went off at my building. Probably about 30 people, including myself, evacuated. We stood on the sidewalk, the nice firefighters paid us a visit, there was no fire, we all went back upstairs. We were miffed, we were cold, we were pissed off that we'd awoken from a dead slumber to run down lots of stairs and stand in the cold for nothing, only to have to run back up them again.
Well, you can imagine how pissed a lot of us were when the damned fire alarm went off at 1:30am again this morning. Until we got down to the 4th floor (I'm on the 7th) and a firefighter in the stairwell told us the smoke was too thick and we'd need to turn around, go up a few flights and come down the north side of the building. So tonight... at least we got to watch a fire while we waited to get back into the building. And at least it was above freezing outside. Stupid wannabe hoodlums set our damned dumpster on fire. We had no less than 10 fire vehicles, and they blockaded Jarvis. The smoke was amazing. So after about 20 minutes of smoke, they told us to go somewhere else, or go back inside to get away from the smoke. Most of us went back inside to endure the sound of the alarm for the next 20 mins. It's still pretty smoky in the building, but at least the alarm stopped.
