So I've been to a few convocations, different universities, different faculties. This convocation was what some (and I mean all) might call... Horrible. I'm disappointed and upset and I'm writing a letter to the university to tell them just why I will NEVER EVER be donating money to Waterloo.
- they didn't give us proper information about the day beforehand
- they didn't tell us we couldn't pay for gown rental with a cheque, which was all I had on me
- they didn't even have somewhere for us to hang our coats during the ceremony
- they didn't get our attention in order to give us instructions; they just attempted to talk over us... which didn't work. No one knew what they were supposed to be doing.
- our convocation was in a gym... and the decorations looked as old as the building
- the graduands were sitting on floor level so we couldn't see
- the audience had to sit in the bleachers that ARE as old as the building and even terrify the students... imagine your grandmother sitting in rickety bleachers for 2.5 hours as they rock back and forth
- they hooded three people at once... it was the ultimate assembly line convocation
And you know what really got me... I didn't have to show them any ID or prove in any way that I was who I said I was. Anyone could have picked up my degree and it wouldn't have made any difference to them.
